Panel Pivots Upwardly To Vent Mode And Moves Downward Before Sliding To Fully Open Mode Patents (Class 296/221)
  • Patent number: 5085622
Abstract: A sliding roof and/or a sliding-lifting roof for motor vehicles in which an adjustment mechanism is provided that aligns the guide blocks or the mounting mechanism coupled to it in the closed or zero position of the cover of the roof. For this purpose, a link part connected to the cover is fixed in the zero position, for example, with the help of a front hold-down device, with respect to a guide rail in the lengthwise direction, preferably, by a positively locking connection while, near the mounting mechanism or the guide block there is provided a through-opening in the link part which is associated with, for example, a fitting recess on the mounting mechanism. With the help of an adjustment part, the fitting recess is aligned flush with the through-opening on the link part and, in doing so, the mounting mechanism or the guide block is aligned in the predetermined zero position relative to the cover or to the link part of same.

Abstract: A panel moving mechanism for a sunshine roof of the type in which the rear end of a panel for closing an opening of the roof of a vehicle is raised and lowered. The mechanism includes a shoe and an arm which are pivotally connected. A pair of pins protrude from the arm and are inserted into respective guide grooves provided in a guide block and a bracket connected to the panel. The longitudinal axes of these guide grooves are bent at the middle sections thereof and are arranged in such a manner that they are not parallel. When the shoe moves toward the front end of the vehicle, the arm is gradually brought to a raised position, thereby raising the rear end of the panel. When the shoe moves toward the rear end of the vehicle, the arm is gradually brought to a horizontal position, thereby lowering the rear end of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4741572
Abstract: A sliding automobile roof cover characterized by a shallow construction having a rigid cover member which seals an opening in the roof of a vehicle body when in its closed position with the cover member being selectively slidable into an open position uncovering the roof opening or merely into a tilted ventilating position. The sliding cover member is supported by sliding blocks and support arms in guide rails which are subdivided into two guide rail sections movable relative to the plane of the automobile roof substantially perpendicular to the sliding direction of the cover member. Independently of a separation of the dividing lines of the guide rails or merely of the resilient design of single-piece continuous guide rails, an independently actuatable raising and lowering device operates to effect shifting of the position of the guide rail sections relative to the plane of the vehicle roof.

Abstract: In a sliding-lifting roof, in which a lid associated with a roof opening is pivotally mounted on an intermediate frame in the vicinity of its forward edge, apart from forward sliding elements, there is provided for the sliding guidance of the lid on lateral guide rails and driven rear sliding elements, guide carriages which are capable of being coupled to the rear sliding elements and are also guided on the guide rails, which are connected with the intermediate frame by link rods. The guide carriages and the link rods permit a lowering movement of the lid, by means of which, in spite of the use of an intermediate frame for the edge gap sealing, a small overall height is attained, because the lid is displaced in a parallel position and not in an inclined position beneath the fixed automobile roof. The pivotal movements of the lid are effected through two guide blocks which for this purpose engage with only one guide pin. a reliable holding of the lid is achieved in all pivoted positions of the lid.

  • Patent number: 4725092
Abstract: In a slidable-upwardly pivoting roof panel, to increase operational reliability of the actuating mechanism and to reduce wear on the individual parts, it is proposed that a slotted guide link on the panel underside towards the end of its downward movement act upon a detent lever pivotally mounted to a front sliding shoe so as to cause unlatching of the same, and that there be provided on the guide link a hold-down member which engages into a guide track during downward movement of the guide link. This arrangement will also accomplish that horizontal displacement of the closure panel via a pin engaging the slotted guide link is effected directly at a driven rear sliding shoe not only for the opening movement but also for the closing movement of the closure panel.

Abstract: A tilt-slide type sunroof of a motor vehicle having a sliding panel for opening or closing a roof opening formed in a roof panel. A housing is provided below the roof panel and separated therefrom, having a housing opening corresponding to the roof opening, and forming a space disposed rearwardly of the roof opening, capable of receiving the sliding panel in cooperation with the roof panel. A shade is provided on the sliding panel for covering the housing opening from above when the roof opening is closed by the sliding panel. The shade is constructed such that an intermediate portion in the longitudinal direction of the shade is made displaceable upward from the housing opening higher than a rear end portion of said shade, the length of the shade is such that when the intermediate portion of the shade is displaced upward, the rear end of the shade is positioned in the space.

Abstract: Motor vehicle roof with a roof opening which can be closed by a cover that can slide and preferably be pivoted out. The underside of the cover is covered by a headlining, which, close to the cover front edge, is joined to the cover by at least one mounting device. The mounting device allows a height adjustment of the cover without affecting a flush-lifting of the headlining against a fixed roof frame bounding the roof opening. The mounting device includes an essentially vertical mounting pin and a catch clip that, by a relative movement in an essentially horizontal direction, can be brought to engage with each other. The catch clip in the engaged condition can be freely moved a limited distance with respect to the drive pin in the direction of the pin axis and can be freely tilted a limited angle with respect to the drive pin, as well as being swingable into a position permitting unobstructed upholstering of the headlining frame.

Abstract: Sliding and lifting roof for vehicles having a rigid cover, which in a closed position closes a roof opening in a fixed roof surface, and therefrom, can be selectively tilted upwardly so as to raise its rear edge above the fixed roof surface, or lowered and displaced below the fixed roof surface. A frame encircling at least part of the roof opening forms a rain gutter extending below both sides of the roof opening.
