  • Patent number: 4648659
Abstract: A method for controlling the supply of fluid to a combine, wherein fluid is fed for actuating hydraulic cylinders 14, 15 of the drive for moving the combine and to a dust suppression hydraulic system 1. The same fluid, which is discharged from the hydraulic cylinders 14, 15, is used for feeding it at a pre-set pressure to the hydraulic system 1 for emergence under the flowthrough conditions. For that purpose, the dust suppression hydraulic system 1 communicates, via a fluid distributor 13, with the hydraulic cylinders 14, 15 to define an open-circuit hydraulic system.

  • Patent number: 4565410
Abstract: High-pressure liquid is controlled for delivery to nozzles disposed near cutting tools or on the periphery of a shearer drum for a longwall mining machine. The shearer drum includes a central shaft which is extended to project from a support arm for the drum containing drive gearing to rotate the drum. The shaft rotates in the same direction and speed as the drum. The extended end of the shaft is used to support a live seal by which high-pressure liquid is introduced to a central bore in the shaft. Between the live seal and the support arm for the drum, there is provided a casing that does not rotate with the shaft and includes sector recesses in the bore thereof to supply liquid to separate bores in the shaft for controlling the discharge of liquid from valves. The valves are separately controlled by the liquid pressure in the sector recesses so that only nozzles directed to the coal face receive the pressurized liquid.

  • Patent number: 4514011
Abstract: An electrical power supply and liquid supply arrangement for a mining machine, particularly a longwall mining machine, wherein extended lengths of a power supply cable and liquid supply conduit are disposed within a housing structure extending along one side of the course of travel of the mining machine. A side arm on the mining machine extends through a slot in a face plate of the housing structure and carries at its outer end a junction box within which power cables leading from the mining machine can be connected to or disconnected from an external power cable. Clamped to the aforesaid junction box is the liquid supply conduit which can be selectively coupled to, or uncoupled from, a mating supply conduit leading to the interior of the mining machine. The arrangement permits connection or disconnection of the power supply and water supply members to or from the mining machine without any disassembly of the machine itself.

  • Patent number: 3975056
Abstract: A side excavating machine comprising a rotatably driven cylindrical drum adapted to advance generally endwise along a pre-existing working face, but angled so that trailing portions of the drum project beneath the plane of the pre-existing face. The drum has a distribution of rock cutting rollers on its cylindrical surface which are freely rotatable about rolling axes which are fixed in a predetermined relation to the axis of the drum, defining a small forward skew angle. The cylindrical drum is rotatably mounted by bearings on a frame which advances along the working face, with the drum axis lying at a small acute angle to the direction of advance so that trailing portions of the drum excavate rock as the frame advances along the face. The major component of rock-cutting forces thereby applied to the drum is normal to the direction of advance of the frame, and there are means to provide side reaction force to the frame corresponding to this major component of rock-cutting forces.
