  • Publication number: 20090090009
Abstract: This invention relates to a demolitions shears, including a body having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw that pivots with respect to the fixed jaw. A main shaft for pivotally mounting the moveable jaw to the body. A hydraulic cylinder for actuating the movable jaw to pivot. The movable jaw includes a first rotation stop and the main shaft including a second rotation stop. When the main shaft is installed in the moveable jaw, the first rotation stop and the second rotation stop are coupled to prevent relative rotation between the main shaft and the movable jaw, without axially fixing the main shaft to the movable jaw. A removable stop assembly is constructed and arranged to limit axial movement between the main shaft and the movable jaw.

Abstract: Multi-purpose shears adapted to include structure that enables rapid and effective cutting of sheet fabric as well as tough fabric. A U-shaped housing is positioned on a loop grip of the shears, the housing having an insertion slot defining an opening at one end and at least one blade having a cutting edge mounted within the housing. The blades are positioned within the housing so as to present a cutting edge obliquely to the insertion slot, so as to cut or slice material inserted into the insertion slot. The insertion slot is generally configured in a direction that permits ergonomic handling of the shears for both snipping and for slicing. The opening may be oriented in a proximal direction relative to the operator, so that the operator may snip in one direction and slice in the reverse direction.

Abstract: The present invention provides a power tool comprising: at least a pair of handles (10, 20), wherein each of the pair of handles has (a) a respective actuator (14, 24) for operating said power tool; and (b) a respective guard member (16, 26) for restricting access to said respective actuator; the power tool further comprising a latch mechanism (72, 74) for latching the pair of handles (10, 20) together, wherein the latch mechanism has a first component (72) mounted on a first one (16) of said guard members and a second component (74) mounted on a second one (26) of said guard members and adapted to engage with said first component (72). Thus, the components of the latch mechanism are mounted on the respective guard members for the actuators, rather than directly on the handles themselves. This ensures that the components of the latch mechanism are able to latch the handles together without being impeded by the presence of the guard members or the actuators.

Abstract: An automatically swiveling crushing apparatus has a swiveling motor in a bracket, and branches diverged from charging and discharging paths that constitute the hydraulic piping leading to a cylinder for closing or opening distal crushing arms. One of the branches extends from one of the paths then operating to open the end arms, so that a portion of the hydraulic fluid is fed to the hydraulic motor if and when internal pressure in this branch has exceeded an upper limit. The other branch extends from the other path leading to the cylinder so as to close the end arms, and this branch prevents any amount of hydraulic fluid from flowing back to the motor. The branches render dispensable a discrete or independent hydraulic piping in a self-propelled platform having a proximal working arm to be connected to the apparatus, saving cost and labor in connecting this arm to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6513245
Abstract: A pinching tube cutting device to transversely cut a tube made of a plastic material. The device consists of two handles attached to each other in a pivoting movement around an axis wherein one handle contains a cutting blade at its end while the end of the other handle contains a hollow seat to receive the tube. The blade has two sharp edges making a salient angle between 120° and 150°, in such a manner that an angle (&agr;) formed by the sharp edge furthest from the axis and a line passing through the point of the blade and the axis is larger than the angle (&bgr;) formed by the other sharp edge and the line. The point of the blade describes a circular arc which cuts the segment of a line which joins the axis and the center of the tube with the largest diameter possible to rest in the seat.

Abstract: An article breaking apparatus for being mounted on an arm of a vehicle, and including a first member having a first jaw on a first end thereof and a mounting attachment on a second end remote from the first jaw for permitting the apparatus to be mounted onto the vehicle arm. The first jaw includes an article-supporting surface. A second member is pivotally mounted for movement about a first pivot axis, the second member including a second jaw having an article-engaging surface cooperable with the article-supporting surface of the first jaw and defining an article receiving opening therebetween. The second jaw is movable about the first pivot axis relative to the first jaw between an article receiving position in which the article-supporting surface of the first jaw and the article-engaging surface of the second jaw diverge away from the first pivot axis and an article breaking position in which the article-supporting and article-engaging surfaces diverge toward the first pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 6453560
Abstract: A cutting device especially designed for cutting up salad greens includes two blades, a rib and handles. The two blades are inter-secured to rotate together about a common axis, but are spaced apart from each other along the common axis. The rib is pivotably secured to the two blades so as to rotate about the common axis, and is curved in a direction of rotation so as to have a concave surface. The handles are integrated with the two blades and the rib to control the two blades and the rib to rotate simultaneously between open and closed positions. The concave surface of the rib is the lead surface when moving from the open position to the closed position, and the cutting edges of the two blades cross edges of the concave surface when moving from the open position to the closed position, so as to perform a cutting action.

  • Patent number: 6438924
Abstract: The present invention relates to a slot-forming tool for forming a number of consistently sized and shaped slots in a channel of a wall frame. Each slot aligns and slidingly supports a vertical stud that is snap-fit in place during an intermediate stage of constructing a wall. The tool has an arm for aligning the tool against the channel and a pivotally connected arm that is stroked to form the slot in the channel. Each arm has a gripping portion, an intermediate connecting portion and a working portion. The working portion of the alignment arm includes a cutting block with a face and two spaced sidewalls that form a pair of cutting edges. The working portion of the pivoting arm includes a pair of spaced knives. Each knife has a ramp or wedge shaped blade with a cutting edge that is aligned to shearingly engage one of the cutting edges of the cutting block and slide down the sidewall of the cutting block a predetermined distance.

Abstract: A device for clamping and cutting an umbilical cord including a pair of differently colored clamps, each having a pair of legs joined at a hinge. A clamp holder including a cutting device supporting the clamps side by side with one another by engagement of flanged rails on the clamps in undercut slots of the clamp holder with the cutting device between them, for guiding the clamps in a sliding movement to advance the cutting desire between the clamps to cut a cord in use while compressing the legs of the clamps to clamp said cord. The clamp support disengaging from at least one of the clamps when the clamp is slid to a predetermined release point such that the clamp can be removed from the clamp holder in two directions each orthogonal to the direction of the sliding movement.

Abstract: A cutter for cutting cable, such as fiber optic cable, and a method of using same is provided. The cutter includes a pair of opposite members that are joined together at a joint such that the opposite members move in conjunction with each other. Each member has a handle on one side of the joint and a cutting blade on the opposite side of the joint. When the handles are forced together, the cutting blades are also forced together. The cutter also includes a clamping mechanism. The clamping mechanism is used to clamp the fiber optic cable on either side of the cutting blades such that the strength reinforcement strands of the fiber optic cable will be placed in tension, prior to the cutting of the strength reinforcement strands within the fiber optic cable, thereby ensuring a clean cut by the cutting blades.
