  • Patent number: 5235750
Abstract: Shear-type cutters for hard and/or large thickness workpieces having a pair of shearing-action cutting jaws, laterally abutting each of which jaws is a hold-down clamp member having a hold-down surface positioned opposite the other of said jaws. Each hold-down surface is moveable with respect to its associated jaw away from the jaw it opposed through a wide range of distances, normally is in alignment with the cutting surface of the jaw to which it as affixed, and is resiliently biased against being so moved. Thereby, when the jaws close on a workpiece of any of a wide range of thicknesses, the hold-down surfaces of the clamps come into contact with and yieldingly remain pressed against the outer surfaces of the work piece to hold it in place as the cutting jaws impinge upon and cut through it.

  • Patent number: 5203084
Abstract: An improved structure for a pair of scissors with pincer-clip, especially for the control of the scissors' opening angle when it's opened, and the locking of the scissors when it's closed. This pair of scissors with pincer-clip can achieve its function by moving on one side. The limitation of its opening is achieved by a O-shape buckle that connects to the spring coils on one side and a long groove of the handle on the other side. Following the opening of the pair of scissors, the O-shape buckle moves up and down in the long groove, thus controlling the opening angle of the pair of scissors by the distance between the spring coils and the pivot, and locking the pair of scissors when it's closed.

  • Patent number: 5189794
Abstract: The structure of the shears with a tongs is that a shears overlaps a tongs. There are rivets at the end of the two handles of the two objects. The center hole of the shears cooperates with the round hole of the pivot. The hole of the overlapped parts of the tongs plates is elongated. That makes the tongs plates have more elastic space and move forward and backward in a slanting direction. The noses of the tongs propped by a tension spring can open outwards. When opening, the tongs using the ends of the handles as the axle center makes the shears open as well. Then, the noses of the tongs is a little smaller than that of the shears. When the handles of the shears are forced to clip inwards, the tongs also clips inwards. But when the noses clip the work piece, the noses stop and the edges of the shears keep cutting inwards. The tongs clips the work piece by the force of the tension spring. That the work piece does not fall down when being cut is its feature.

  • Patent number: 4897921
Abstract: A material handling and metal shear attachment for a backhoe is mounted on the boom or dip stick of the backhoe for actuation by the hydraulic system of the backhoe. A fixed blade is pivotally secured to the boom or dip stick and a movable cutting blade is pivoted to the fixed blade. A hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly mounted on the fixed blade moves the movable cutting blade in shearing relation to the fixed blade. The fixed and movable blades are shaped and positioned relative to their pivotal engagement to move objects being sheared toward the blade's pivotal engagement where the cutting force is the greatest. The movable blade and the fixed blade have changeable cutting edge portions, each of the portions having a number of cutting edges on both sides so that worn cutting edge sections are replaced quickly and easily by changing the position of the cutting edge portion relative to the movable and fixed blades on which they are positioned.

  • Patent number: 4894913
Abstract: A heavy-duty industrial tool has a working jaw mechanism operated by a pair of handles that are squeezed together. The upper handle has a main non-metallic handle member to whose sides are fastened a pair of stamped metal side members. These side members are in-laid into recesses in the sides of the non-metallic member to form a gripping portion. Forwardly of the gripping portion, the widths of the metallic members increase to form a throat within which the lower handle is pivotally mounted. The lower handle contains a stack of laminations, including a cutting blade that is forward of the pivot to form the upper jaw of the tool. The lower jaw is an anvil member that joins to flanges of the metal side members of the upper handle. When the tool is used to cut tensioned strapping, a resilient metal bracket attached to the blade presses the strapping against the anvil on opposite sides of the blade and deforms to absorb energy that is released by the strapping upon severing.
