  • Patent number: 7422180
Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnetic knife stand which comprises one or more slits for inserting knives. On the upper inner side of each inserting slit, one or more magnets are disposed. A hole or a hollow is disposed on the upper inner side of each inserting holes, and the magnet is placed inside the hole or hollow on the upper inner side of the inserting slit. During and after the process of inserting the knives into the knife stand, the magnets will keep the cutting edges of the knives away from the bottom inner sides of the inserting slits, thereby effectively preventing the edges from becoming blunt, which is caused by their rubbing against the inserting slits. The frequency of sharpening the blades can be reduced and the lifespan of the knives can be extended. Further, this magnetic knife stand is more effective in protecting the knife stand from being cut or worn out by the knives. This invention enables the knives to be stored securely in the knife stand.

  • Publication number: 20080201960
Abstract: A rotary cutter knife provided with a guard member, which extends beyond the outer edge of the rotary blade to enhance the safety. The guard member is divided into two sub-members, which can independently move between an extended position where an outer profile of the sub-member extends beyond an outer edge of the rotary blade and a retracted position where the outer profile of the sub-member is retracted such that the outer edge of the rotary blade is exposed. Thus, the cutting edge of the rotary blade is not exposed in the area where the cutting operation is not performed, and the cutting edge is exposed only in a limited area associated with the cutting operation, such that the highly enhanced safety is realized.

  • Patent number: 7346988
Abstract: A metallic housing utility knife and method for making the device with a soft over molded elastomeric cover to provide blister free comfort and slip proof safety. The cover or skin is molded into the unique structure of the housing in a fashion that results in mechanical bonds that embrace the cover on the housing. The knife includes flexible posts from the cover that project into the blade storage compartment of the housing to prevent internally stored spare blades from moving within the storage compartment. An elastomeric blade clamp integrally formed with the cover serves to restrict lateral movement of blades of varying sizes when installed in a cutting position within the knife assembly. A rear quick release latch and interlocking housing sections provide a convenient way to open and close the knife and assure that it is also secure and firmly held when locked in a safe cutting position.

Abstract: A structure for fastening sword blade to scabbard includes two magnets having different polarities and imbedded in a blade and a scabbard of a sword, respectively. The magnet imbedded in the blade is flush with an outer surface of the blade near a cross guard of the sword, and the magnet imbedded in the scabbard is flush with an inner surface of the scabbard corresponding to the magnet on the blade. With these arrangements, the sword blade may be easily inserted into and magnetically held to the scabbard without the risk of unexpectedly moving out of the scabbard, and may be smoothly drawn out from the scabbard without the risk of being stuck to the scabbard.

  • Publication number: 20070266569
Abstract: A locking sheath and knife combination is provided that includes a spring biased member that partially extends out of the handle of the knife and interacts with a catch on the sheath for securing the knife to the sheath. When the user wants to extract the knife from the sheath, the spring biased member is squeezed as the handle is grabbed, which rotates the spring biased member to be substantially fully contained within the handle of the knife, and is secured there by lock spring plate. When the knife is inserted back into the sheath, a protrusion on the sheath interacts with the lock spring plate to automatically allow the spring biased member to rotate out of the handle, thereby securing the knife to the sheath.

Abstract: An improved utility knife with an ergonomically shaped handle having a cavity and a working blade holder slidably disposed within the cavity is described. A bottom release lever and a top drive lever are pivotally mounted to the handle and movable with respect to the handle for releasing and moving the working blade holder, respectively. The knife includes an extra blade holder slidably mounted to the handle and movable with respect to the handle within the cavity. The extra blade holder includes a front support end for engagement with a working blade, whereby slidable displacement of the extra blade holder disengages the support end from the working blade to allow removal and replacement of the working blade from the utility knife.

Abstract: A guided cutting system including first and second blade cartridges which are used in association with templates. The blade cartridges each include a head and cover portions wherein the head portion includes a non-use end and a cutting end. The cutting end includes a pair of guide pegs and a cutting blade wherein the guide pegs are adapted to be received within a peripheral groove formed on a template. The cover portion is adapted to be attached to the non-use end of the head portion whereby the cover portion acts as a handle. The head portion may be attached over the cutting end to cover and prevent contact with the cutting blade. A different spacing is provided between the cutting blade and guide pegs for the first and second head portions for cropping a photograph and cutting a corresponding backing mat for the photograph.

Abstract: The invention provides a blade guard comprising an elongated member of resilient material that has a longitudinal axis. The member has a portion of an outer surface extending parallel to the longitudinal axis and spaced from the axis. An elongated slit defined in the member includes slit walls defined by the resilient material. The slit extends in a plane extending from the portion of the outer surface inwardly of the member and parallel to the longitudinal axis. The member is adapted to engage the blade of a knife within the slit of the member and the resilience of the material of the slit walls is sufficient for the member to be held on the blade so as to cover a portion of a cutting edge of the blade.

  • Patent number: 6442843
Abstract: A knife and sheath assembly includes a knife having a handle and a blade and a sheath having a cavity for releasably receiving the knife blade in a storage condition. A first end portion of the blade is adjustably mounted in the handle and a second end portion including a cutting edge protrudes from the handle. The blade is movable between a first, retracted position in which a first length of the blade protrudes from the handle and a second, extended position in which a second length of the blade longer than the first length protrudes from the handle. A releasable latch member on the handle releasably locks the knife blade in the first and second positions, and the sheath cavity is designed to receive the portion of the knife blade which protrudes from the handle in the retracted position, such that the overall length of the assembly is reduced when the knife is sheathed.
