  • Patent number: 6725546
Abstract: A cutting tool having first and second lever arms with a cutting end and a handle end. A first insert and a second insert are connected to the cutting ends of each of the lever arms. The inserts are removable from the cutting ends of the lever arms, and each of the inserts include multiple cutting edges. When the inserts are connected to the cutting ends of the lever arms and the user pulls the handle ends towards each other, the cutting ends also move toward each other. As the cutting ends move toward each other, the inserts act cooperatively to sever materials located therebetween. When one of the cutting edges of an insert becomes dulled or damaged, the user removes the insert from the cutting end of the lever arm and repositions the insert on the cutting end such that a different cutting edge is revealed for severing materials.

  • Patent number: 4550495
Abstract: This invention relates to a light weight, portable, hand-operated device for extracting the kernels of very hard-shell edible nuts in premium-size pieces without crushing. On black walnuts the device is effectively used: first to split the nut along its natural suture; and then by using its tooth-like nippers, the hard shell of each black walnut half is split into very large portions along five outlined paths thereby releasing the kernel in large premium-size pieces. The invention is comprised of jaws with nippers, a lock to hold the jaws closed, a splitter blade mounted on one handle and a slotted safety ring mounted on the other handle adjacent to the splitter blade.

  • Patent number: 4545234
Abstract: A roller is mounted on a pivot pin connecting two operating handles. In operation, two further rolls or rollers mounted on two further pivot pins, each connecting a respective jaw lever to one of the operating handles, bear on this roller. The jaw levers pivot about fulcrum pins and are provided with closing jaws for closing a clamping seal used to join the ends of a packing ligature or band. The rollers relieve the pivots of load, so that the tongs containing the jaw levers are suited to the transmission of elevated forces.

  • Patent number: 4505038
Abstract: A compound lever tool having a pair of interpivoted head levers with jaws and a toggle mechanism consisting of two actuating levers connected to each other by a toggle pivot and each connected to its respective head lever by a head pivot such that movement of the actuating levers towards each other spreads the rearward ends of the head levers apart and causes the jaws to close, the actuating levers each formed from sheet metal and bent to provide an upper and lower surface with each surface having aligned holes adapted to receive the toggle pivot and its respective head pivot. In the preferred embodiment the actuating levers are cloven to separate head pivot-supporting parts from the toggle pivot-supporting parts and adjustable blocks are disposed within the clefts to provide lateral support between the toggle pivot and the respective head pivots.

  • Patent number: 4414868
Abstract: This invention pertains to a box joint for use with plier-type tools and the like. These tools are pivotally retained with two members having handles and jaws. The box joint provided has a first member with a midportion of conventional construction and with an aperture through which the shank of a shoulder screw is passed. A second member has its outer wall portions formed with one wall integral with and extending from the handle to the jaw portion and the other outer wall having a transverse opening therethrough with each end of this opening made as a shouldered or stepped end. The opening and the stepped end configuration has the narrower opening at the inner portion and through this narrower opening the midportion of the first member passes when and while normal to its closed or in-use condition.

  • Patent number: 4079513
Abstract: A hand tool, for example a garden pruner, has two members movable together or apart by handles connected to the members, a first one of the members having a surface accurately located with respect to a corresponding surface of the other member. The first mentioned surface is formed on a first part of the member which, at an intermediate stage in the assembly of the tool, is supported for tilting movement on a second part of the member to allow said surfaces to be accurately located relative to each other, after which the first and second parts are rigidly secured together by fixing means. As an example the hand tool can be a garden pruner, the first member comprising an anvil and the other member a blade cooperative with the anvil.
