  • Patent number: 5815925
Abstract: Simple, inexpensive and efficient tip cutting assemblies for allowing an operator to cut the tip of a fresh cartridge of caulk prior to insertion in the barrel. The tip cutting assemblies are provided in the context of two general types of caulking guns having either a metal enclosed frame or single piece molded plastic open frame. In one embodiment for a molded open-frame gun, the cartridge tip cutting assembly includes a cutting bracket attached to the frame and having an aperture there through for insertion of the cartridge tip. The cutting assembly also includes a blade assembly attached to the trigger and extending a blade outwardly between the frame and cutting bracket. Another embodiment for a closed metal-frame gun includes an aperture through a side of the housing for insertion of a cartridge tip, and a tip-cutting member formed with a through-hole to pass the plunger shaft and riding thereon within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5425395
Abstract: The tapping apparatus includes a body that receives a cutter and sleeve. The cutter and sleeve advance together to form an opening in the sidewall of a main conduit about which the body is secured. The sleeve includes external threads that grip into the conduit sidewall. Thereafter, retraction of the cutter leaves the sleeve in place to secure the tapping apparatus to the conduit and establish fluid communication therethrough. The cutter and sleeve preferably have different thread pitches so that the sleeve advances at a slightly faster rate than the cutter. This facilitates sealing engagement between the external surface of the main conduit and the body. Additionally, a one-way drive arrangement is provided between the sleeve and cutter so that once the sleeve is positioned in place, the cutter can be removed without altering the location of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5394776
Abstract: A portable cutting tool has an annular frame for surrounding the pipe. A rotatable ring on the frame carries a radially fed cutter which includes a bit subassembly for cutting the tubular member. The bit subassembly is indexed in response to orbital movement of the cutter. The bit subassembly includes a bit planar support block which has a dimension (as measured parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tubular member being cut) which is less than that of the bit which it carries. In such a manner, a channel passageway may be formed between the bit support block and the tubular member being cut as the bit penetrates into the tubular member during the cutting operation such that lubricating/flushing fluid may be directed to the bit.

  • Patent number: 5088196
Abstract: A pipe cutter is disclosed in which a housing carries a disk which is rotated selectively in a forward direction or in a reverse direction by a power drive. The disk has a pipe receiving slot extending to the central axis of rotation of the disk for receiving a pipe to be cut. A cutter blade and rotatable roller are disposed on the disk in symmetrical locations about the central axis of rotation, the cutter blade being adapted to move linearly into and out of contact with the pipe which is inserted into the receiving slot. The roller, which preferably is a pair of spaced rollers, is engageable with the outer peripheral surface of the pipe at a location generally opposite to the location of the cutter. A holder for supporting the cutter blade is mounted on the disk for rotation therewith about the central axis of rotation and is also mounted for linear motion toward and away from the central axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5042337
Abstract: A shearing device for wire rope or cables. The device incorporates a shear block system having a first cylindrical block adapted for mainly engaging an eccentric recess formed in a housing. Both the housing and the block are constructed with apertures therethrough adapted for receiving the cable or wire rope therein. Eccentric misalignment of the apertures is provided by relative rotation between the housing and the block to therein provide the shearing action. In this manner, a post-tension cable of the type utilized in concrete construction or the like, can be terminated within a recessed region with efficiency and dimensional control.

  • Patent number: 4769911
Abstract: A pipe cutting device comprises a housing to which a tool case is attached to be rotatable, and by rotating manually or electrically the tool case so that the openings of the tool case and a follow-up gear disposed in the tool case substantially align with the opening provided for the housing, is formed a pipe inserting passage for inserting a pipe from the opening side of the openings of these members towards the central portion of the tool case. Two driving gears meshed with the follow-up gear are driven by a motor through the power transmission mechanism to rotate the tool case. The rotation of the tool case drives the cam roller to operate the cam plate, and the clutch arm is rotated by predetermined angles by every one rotation of the tool case thereby to minutely rotate the eccentric cam by predetermined angles through the one-way clutch. The rotation of the eccentric cam rotates the lever mechanism which is operatively connected to the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4763413
Abstract: A chain tube cutter has two plier-like levers with hand grips on one side of a pivot pin which projects from one lever through a slot in the other and chain-engaging arms on the other side of the pivot pin. A link cutting chain is secured to one arm. The other arm has notches for engaging a selected link of the chain after it is wrapped around the tube to be cut. Squeezing the hand grips together generally keeps the chain adjusted about the tube as it is cut by rotating the cutter relative to the tube, but to provide greater initial and operational adjustment, the pivot pin is variably positionable in the slot.

  • Patent number: 4627163
Abstract: An improved tube cutter is provided for cutting off a tube section formed by two concentric tubes mechanically bulged together wherein the cut to be made is adjacent the bulged area. The tube cutter includes an elongated housing formed by two matable portions having longitudinal matching recesses which define an axial bore through the housing and transverse matching recesses which define a circumferential groove that accommodates the bulged area when the housing portions are clamped together about the tube section. Each of the housing portions carry a cutter bit which is located adjacent the groove and is extendable into the axial bore as the tube cutter manually rotated about the tube section so as to make a cut through the tube section adjacent the bulged area.

  • Patent number: 4384405
Abstract: This invention relates to a cylinder cutting tool which is utilized to sever the upper end of a cylindrical housing of a factory-sealed vehicular suspension system of the type commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension system. The tool includes a main body portion having a main arm, a second arm, and a clamp for supporting the tool on the piston rod of the original shock absorber for controlling the rotation of the tool. A rotatable cutting wheel assembly is slidably movable relative to the main support arm. The cutting wheel may be moved into and out of engagement with the cylinder by a suitable lead screw actuatable by rotating a hand grip mounted on the outer end of the main arm. The cutting line at which the cylinder is severed may be controlled by providing a plastic adapter element of a predetermined thickness for supporting the rotating tool on top of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4247234
Abstract: The present invention relates to a relatively small hand-held tool for cutting grooves in the ends of small diameter pipe and for sizing the outside diameter for a predetermined length. More particularly the tool has a drive housing in which cutting blades are located and a pipe housing, pivotally connected to the drive housing, in which the pipe end is positioned. A coil spring, acting against both housings, provides the blade pressure on the pipe. Grooving is done by rotating the tool about the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4078304
Abstract: A cutter for corrugated aluminum flexible pipe having a plurality of successive circumferential corrugations. The cutter frame is formed of two members hinged at one end and releasably closed at the other end to form a ring, a guide wheel or wheels ride the crest of one corrugation and a resiliently flanged wheel or wheel opposed to the first guide wheel or wheels ride the trough on either side. The blade is connected adjacent to one or between a pair of resiliently flanged wheels which permit the blade to be driven into the pipe. The C members are resiliently compressed toward each other by an adjustable spring controlling bolt which sets the pressure on the blade and allows for proper cutting even when the pipe varies in diameter.
