With Air-gap Shield Patents (Class 310/104)
  • Patent number: 11926925
Abstract: Methods and systems for growing thin films via molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) on substrates are provided. The methods and systems utilize a thermally conductive backing plate including an infrared-absorbing coating (IAC) formed, for example, on one side of the thermally conductive backing plate to provide an asymmetric emissivity that absorbs infrared radiation (IR) on the side having the IRC and does not on the non-coated side of the thermally conductive backing plate (e.g., refractive metal or alloy). The asymmetric emissivity shields the thin film being deposited on a substrate from the IR during formation.

  • Patent number: 9976812
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling an electrical heat source is disclosed. A heat exchanger has two principal sub-assemblies. A closed-loop fluid flow is provided through a second sub-assembly, disposed next to a heat source. An open-loop fluid flow is provided though a first sub-assembly in communication with a second sub-assembly. Each of the first and second sub-assemblies has a rotational element. The fluid flow entering the first sub-assembly rotates the first rotational element, and magnetic communication between the rotational elements causes movement of the second rotational element, thereby achieving fluid movement within the second sub-assembly. Operationally, the closed-loop sub-assembly removes heat from the heat source and transfers it to the open-loop sub-assembly for subsequent heat transfer in a downstream fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 9968733
Abstract: An implantable infusion device includes a reservoir for housing an infusion medium and a drive mechanism having an inlet chamber, a piston and a piston channel. The inlet chamber is in fluid communication with the reservoir. The piston channel is in fluid communication with the inlet chamber, and has a distal end and a proximal end, the proximal end being closer to the inlet channel than the distal end. The piston is axially moveable within the piston channel to drive infusion medium out of the distal end of the piston channel. The clearance between the piston and the channel is sufficiently small to prevent undissolved gas in the inlet chamber from passing through the clearance. The inlet chamber may be sufficiently large to allow undissolved gas to accumulate without adversely affecting the performance of the infusion device.

Abstract: An axial motor includes a rotor arranged between a pair of stators with coils. In the rotor, a plurality of permanent magnets sandwiched between pairs of first magnetic materials and a plurality of second magnetic materials are alternately arranged in a rotation direction while gaps are provided therebetween. Since the permanent magnets are sandwiched by the first magnetic materials in the thus constructed axial motor, a field-weakening control can be performed. Since the second magnetic materials are provided, a reluctance torque can be generated. Further, since the gaps are provided, more magnetic fluxes generated from the permanent magnets can be caused to flow toward the coils. Therefore, the thus constructed axial motor can achieve a higher output, higher torque, higher efficiency, and miniaturization.
