Patent number: 8310122Abstract: A rotating machine has a stator and a permanent magnet rotor that is more easily made, lower cost, and lighter by virtue of a plurality of permanent magnet assemblies mounted on a rotor body. Each magnet assembly includes two facing core plate stacks supporting a permanent magnet between them. Each core plate stack is made from a plurality of core plates of substantially identical size and shape and with on or more holes in substantially the same location to form respective bores in the stack. A tie rod is formed in each bore and retains the plates in a stack via bevels in the holes of the end plates. Preferably, the tie rods also apply compressive force as a result of placing the stacked plates in an injection mold, injecting plastic into the mold to fill each bore with plastic, and allowing the plastic to cure. As the plastic cures, it shrinks so that the tie rods pull the end plates together. To enhance the pressure, the stacked plates can be compressed before and during the injection process.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2006Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Wilic S.A.R.L.Inventors: Otto Pabst, Franco Gadrino

Patent number: 8232693Abstract: A resolver is configured to determine the rotational position of a first member that is selectively rotatable about an axis with respect to a second member. The resolver includes a stator core, a plurality of wire windings operatively connected to the stator core, a winding support between the windings and the stator core, and a cover at least partially enclosing the windings. One of the cover and the winding support defines a pin that is fittable inside a hole in the second member. The pin functions as a locating feature, which ensures that the stator is accurately mounted to the second member. Because the pin is part of the winding support or the cover, the locating feature does not entail the use of an extra part, thereby simplifying assembly of the stator.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2010Date of Patent: July 31, 2012Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Kevin P Coleman, Edward L. Patent number: 8154168Abstract: A fixing enhancement mechanism for large iron core, including an iron core and two end rings. The iron core is composed of several arc-shaped bodies, which are successively connected in an annular form with their curvature centers coinciding with each other. The end rings are coaxially fixedly connected to two axial ends of the iron core respectively to keep the iron core in the annular form. The fixing reinforcement mechanism further includes an enhancement section having several rod-shaped enhancement members. The enhancement members are bridged between the two end rings in abutment with outer arc surfaces of the arc-shaped bodies. According to the fixing enhancement mechanism, the components for fixing the large iron core are simplified and the fixing performance is enhanced to keep the motor operating stably.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2009Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Hiwin Mikrosystem Corp.Inventor: Ming-Hung Hsieh
