  • Patent number: 10128789
Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an electric motor is presented. A transmit magnetic field is received at a group of receive coils having a group of axes oriented substantially parallel to magnetic field lines from a transmit coil and having a group of resonant frequencies. A resonant frequency in the group of resonant frequencies is different from other receive coils in the group of receive coils. A receive magnetic field is generated at a receive coil in the group of receive coils having the resonant frequency when the transmit magnetic field has a selected frequency matching the resonant frequency. The receive magnetic field attracts a rotor in the electric motor.

  • Patent number: 9725163
Abstract: An electric connector assembly is provided that is designed to provide a simple and reliable electric connection between a source of electric power on an aircraft and a plurality of electrical connections, such as those from stator windings, in an electric drive means powering an aircraft landing gear drive wheel. The plurality of drive means electrical connections are individually connected to power distribution elements designed to significantly reduce the number of connectors required to establish an electrical connection between the drive means and an aircraft power supply. The reduced number of connectors is directed out of the wheel and guided along a path by a path guide element to a connector element designed to connect directly with a wire harness or other connection with an aircraft source of electric power. This electric connector design facilitates disconnection and reconnection when removal and remounting of the drive wheel is required.

  • Patent number: 8816563
Abstract: The invention relates to a six-pole DC machine, particularly a DC motor for use in a motor vehicle, having a stator (16) excited preferably by a permanent magnet and a rotor (20) which is rotatably supported in a pole housing (12) and which has a wave winding (23) and a commutator (24), and having a brush carrier (28) for holding the brushes (26) and preferably additional components (30, 31; 32). In contrast to a full equipping, the brush arrangement has less than six brushes (26), which are arranged on the circumference of the commutator (24) at an angular distance of approximately 60° to each other. Thus, the ripple of the rotor current, the torque oscillations, and the noise emission are clearly reduced and free space is created on the brush carrier for accommodating suppressor components (30, 31; 32).

Abstract: In a direct current electric motor, segment pieces of a commutator are generally planar and are arranged one after another in a circumferential direction about a rotational axis of the commutator. A slidably engaging surface of each segment piece, which is slidably engageable with a plurality of brushes of the motor, extends in a plane that is generally perpendicular to the rotational axis, and each segment piece includes a radially inner engaging portion at a radially inner end part of the segment piece. Each conductive line extends along a corresponding straight line and electrically interconnects between the radially inner engaging portions of corresponding two of the plurality of segment pieces to implement the same electric potential in the corresponding two of the plurality of segment pieces.

  • Patent number: 7608956
Abstract: An electric rotary machine which may be employed as a dc motor in an automotive engine starter. The motor includes an armature equipped with an armature shaft, a commutator, brushes, and a bearing retaining an end of the armature shaft. The surface of the commutator has a plurality of protrusions extending in parallel to each other in a direction of rotation of the commutator. Each of the brushes has formed in the bottom thereof grooves in which the protrusions of the commutator are fit. The brushes are urged into constant engagement of the grooves with the protrusions on the commutator to establish electrical contacts between the brushes and the commutator and minimize movement of the armature shaft relative to the bearing.

  • Patent number: 7602134
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus that controllably allows the relative rotation between structures, such as a gimbal and a structure to which it is mounted. According to one aspect, the apparatus includes a twist capsule assembly with internal stop mechanisms that controllably prevents the amount of clockwise and counterclockwise rotation with respect to a rotation axis. According to another aspect of the invention, by limiting the amount of relative rotation, other means of communicating power and signals between the structures can be used, thus avoiding or reducing the limitations imposed by conventional slip ring assemblies. According to yet another aspect, the invention includes techniques and structures for allowing conventionally shielded cables and wires to be used in place of slip rings, while allowing for rotation between structures, thus even further improving the communication of power and signals between structures.
