    Abstract: A sealant containment gasket is provided for use on an electric motor to be used in a moist environment. The inventive gasket includes a first upright wall that covers a power-supply opening in the motor with a wiring passageway and further includes a second upright wall, at least a portion of which is spaced away from the first upright wall. The walls of the gasket cooperate to form a pocket to receive wiring extending through the opening in the motor. The pocket also defines a cavity between the walls with a filling hole disposed along a top margin thereof. Liquid sealant is inserted into the cavity through the filling hole when the motor is disposed right-side-up and on its feet in the assembly position. The liquid sealant is contained within the pocket and forms a barrier around the wiring passageway to prevent moisture from entering the motor.

    Abstract: A downhole generator comprises a turbine coaxially disposed inside a section of drillstring and that will be spun when hydraulic or pneumatic flows are pushed through to a drillbit motor on a distal end. The turbine, in turn, spins permanent magnets in an orbit around the outside of a cylindrical containment shell. Such containment shell is made of titanium or aluminum and will allow the spinning magnets fields to enter and induce electrical currents in coils within. Current from the coils is rectified and filtered to provide a DC operating voltage through intrinsically safe connectors to various loads including drillstring steering controls, radars, and telemetry circuits. The hydraulic and pneumatic flows stream past all around the cylindrical containment shell from the turbine on their way to the drillbit motor.

    Abstract: An electrical motor for an electrical submersible pump wherein the electrical motor has increased heat transfer capabilities. The electrical motor includes a housing and a plurality of stator laminations within the housing. Each stator lamination defines a central orifice and a plurality of lamination slots. A plurality of magnet wires pass through each of the plurality of lamination slots formed by the stacked plurality of stator laminations. Shrink wrap surrounds each of the plurality of magnet wires to secure the magnet wires in bundles. The result is that the wires are effectively bound together in a manner that allows oil to move freely inside the lamination slots surrounding the wire bundles. Since fluid can pass between and around the windings, the overall winding temperature will be normalized, essentially reducing hot spots that occur in prior art designs.

Independently assembling the stator components in this manner facilitates varying a thickness and/or the number of heat conducting laminations between the yoke and teeth that subsequently facilitates heat transfer from the armature winding to an outer pressure casing of the machine.
