  • Patent number: 10830988
Abstract: The subject of this invention is a laterally unconstrained magnetic joint and application of said joint in tip-tilt and piston-tip-tilt optical mounts. The laterally unconstrained magnetic joint in its basic embodiment comprises two interfacing parts: one having a flat surface interfacing a convex surface of the other, wherein one or both parts are made from permanent magnets that are magnetized along the axis of the joint, and the other of the said parts is made from a ferromagnetic material thus creating magnetic force attraction between the two parts. The resulting lack of lateral mechanical constraint between the two parts of the joint is utilized in tip-tilt mounts by decoupling an adjustor and/or actuator from the payload resulting in a simple, uniform design, while magnetic force provides retention sufficient for a wide variety of applications.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for angle measurement. According to one embodiment, the angle of rotation between a first movable portion of the device and a second fixed portion of the device is measured based on the times when a plurality of marks on a third rotating portion of the device are sensed by a plurality of sensors on both the first movable and the second fixed portions of the device. The embodiment utilizes an electronic computation device to analyze the times and provide an accurate measurement of the angle.

Abstract: The earth's magnetic field has not been mined as a source of energy. With average field strength of 0.5×10?4 Tesla around the world it is easy to understand why. A disruptive technology is needed to mine the earth's magnetic field. Such a technology, graphene, is now at an early stage of development with excellent properties in the form of high conductivity, low resistivity sheets that are durable, light weight, and low cost. Multiple sheets of graphene provide a significant multiplier to earth's magnetic field yielding a feasible source of ecologically clean power. Graphene based EcoCharge units can be driven by electric motors putting graphene in motion to mine the earth's magnetic field.

Abstract: A fluid dynamic bearing apparatus includes a stationary body, a rotating body, and a lubricating oil arranged therebetween. One of the stationary and rotating bodies includes a shaft. Another one of the stationary and rotating bodies includes a sleeve. The sleeve includes a communicating hole arranged to pass therethrough in an axial direction or obliquely with respect to the axial direction. A groove array is defined in the stationary body or the rotating body to cause the lubricating oil to flow into the communicating hole. An opening area of an inlet of the communicating hole may be arranged to be greater than a cross-sectional area of a tubular portion of the communicating hole to make it easier for the lubricating oil to flow into the communicating hole. Further, the shape of the inlet may be modified to make a loss coefficient at the inlet lower than a loss coefficient at an outlet. This contributes to preventing a leakage of the lubricating oil.
