Abstract: A light-emitting display device comprising a printed wiring board impressed with a wiring pattern; a light-emitting element mounted on the printed wiring board and electrically connected to the wiring pattern; a reflector provided with a penetrating hole for receiving the light-emitting element at its lower opening and disposed on the printed wiring board, the inner wall of the penetrating hole acting as a reflection plane; a light-permeable film containing light-scattering materials and closing the upper opening of the penetrating hole; and a bonding layer containing light-scattering material, the bonding layer bonding the light-permeable film to the reflector.
Abstract: A solid state source of radiant energy having a characteristic frequency spectra with a high frequency cutoff .nu..sub.co, which is a function of the applied voltage value. The source is a metal-insulator-metal tunnel junction wherein the insulator layer is relatively thin with respect to the metal layers and inelastic tunneling occurs. To facilitate output coupling to surface plasmon modes in the junction, the counter-electrode metal layer, from which the radiant energy is emitted, is roughened.
Abstract: A light-emitting display device comprising a light-emitting element, a substrate on which the light-emitting element is disposed, a reflector for reflecting the light from the light-emitting element, and a light diffusing film disposed apart from the light-emitting element for dispersing the light. The light diffusing film consists of a light diffusing part of a fibriform light diffusing material and a transparent part.
Abstract: In an electrodeless fluorescent lamp of the type including a sealed, light transmissive, envelope including an elongate inner wall defining an open-ended cavity and an outer wall surrounding the inner wall to form a generally annular, hollow cavity therebetween, the annular cavity being charged with an ionizable gaseous medium, an induction coil positioned within the open-ended cavity, and a radio frequency oscillator connected to the coil, the coil and the oscillator initiating and maintaining ionization of the medium to form an ultraviolet light emitting discharge, the inner surface of the outer wall of the envelope being coated with a phosphor which emits visible light when excited by ultraviolet light, the improvement wherein the outer surface of the inner wall is coated with a layer of an electrically insulative ultraviolet light reflective material which is overcoated with a phosphor layer. Such improvement yields an increase in visible light production of the order of 50% to 100%.
Abstract: The header and tunnel of an external core, solenoidal electric field, fluorescent lamp are coated with a thin ultraviolet light-reflective layer; for example, aluminum or magnesium oxide. Radiative heat transfer from the lamp plasma to the magnetic core is thus reduced to permit high operating power levels and good lumen maintenance.
Abstract: This invention relates to an incandescent lamp having an improved light diffusing coating carried on the internal surface of the lamp envelope and a method for applying the coating. The coating is a mixture of very finely divided, very low-moisture content powders. The powders substantially comprise a mixture of hydrophilic silica and hydrophobic silica. This coating has been found to be very adherent and substantially free from agglomerations of the silica.

Abstract: An illuminating device used for decorating purposes comprises a base for electrical and mechanical connection to a socket, a discharge tube or bulb, a discharge control element for the discharge tube or bulb, supporting wires to support the discharge tube or bulb and the discharge control element, and a light transmitting envelope to be received in the base covering the discharge tube or bulb, the discharge control element and the supporting wires therewithin.
Abstract: A selected part of the envelope of a fabricated electric lamp is made light-reflecting by spraying it with a coating composition that contains aluminum flakes of such minute size that they inherently arrange themselves in planar relationship and form a specular film as the composition dries. A protective coating of a suitable heat-resistant material, such as silicone plastic, is then sprayed over the reflective film and cured. The protective coating can also contain aluminum particles in order to fill voids that may be left in the thin specular film and to make the latter more opaque.

Abstract: The arc tube of an electric discharge lamp is surrounded by a reflective filter. The filter selectively reflects arc discharge radiation outside the visible range to which the arc tube wall is transparent and to which the arc plasma is optically thick, so that the reflected radiation is preferentially absorbed by the plasma and not by the arc tube wall.
