Abstract: In a cathode ray tube including a panel provided with a phosphor screen, a funnel integrated with the panel, an electron gun disposed inside the funnel, a magnetic shield (1) for shielding an electron beam (5) emitted from the electron gun against an external magnetic field, and a frame (2) for holding the magnetic shield (1), the magnetic shield (1) includes, at a portion to be joined with the frame (2), a bent portion (20) bent toward a tube axis side, and a thickness T of the bent portion (20) at its edge on the tube axis side is 0.08 mm or less. By making the thickness T small, halation that is liable to occur in a cathode ray tube with a large deflection angle can be suppressed because electron beams reflected from an end face (11) and allowed to reach the screen without being shielded by the frame (2) are reduced.

Abstract: A vibration attenuator is attached to a shadow mask in a movable condition without being adhered to the shadow mask. The vibration attenuator has depressions, and is attached to the shadow mask by inserting its foot portions through holes provided in the shadow mask, and folding them at the depressions, thereby deforming the vibration attenuator into an approximately rectangular shape. Because a vibration energy of the shadow mask is consumed by friction due to a contacting or sliding of the vibration attenuator with the shadow mask, vibration of the shadow mask can be attenuated effectively with a simple structure.

Abstract: A tension mask cathode ray tube has a vacuum tube and an inner shield mounted within the vacuum tube to shield the vacuum tube from geomagnetism. A value Br/Hc of the inner shield where Br indicates a residual magnetic flux density and Hc indicates a coercive force is established to be 1.0-2.0 times more than a value Br/Hc of the mask frame. In this structure, the route of electron beams is established to be more precise. Consequently, the purity characteristic and the convergence characteristic are improved while forming a precise raster. In this way, the display screen quality can be enhanced.

Abstract: The present invention provides a tension mask for a cathode-ray tube. The tension mask has an active aperture portion formed by a plurality of parallel strands extending between cantilevers on opposed sides of a mask support frame. The tension mask further comprises border shields mounted over each end of the frame cantilevers, whereby the strand ends are held to the cantilevers in a predetermined spaced-apart relationship. The border shields on opposing sides of the frame extend toward the active aperture portion of the tension mask and is substantially aligned with the screen matrix of the CRT. The tension mask has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than that of the mask frame, cantilevers, and border shield.

Abstract: In a shadow mask color cathode ray tube, its shadow mask is not easily deformed into a concave shape when an impact or a vibration is applied to the shadow mask, so that a good image can be displayed. The electron beam passing holes of the shadow mask are each formed of an upper hole etched from the panel side of the shadow mask and a lower hole etched from the electron-gun side of the shadow mask. In each electron beam passing hole located in the peripheral portion of the shadow mask, the ratio of an upper-side etching quantity to a lower-side etching quantity is controlled to be 1.8 or less. By adjusting the balance in strength relative to compressive stresses between the panel side and the electron-gun side of the shadow mask, it is possible to prevent the shadow mask from being deformed into a concave shape.
