Patent number: 6441545Abstract: In a color cathode ray tube in which the external surface of an effective portion of a panel has a flat surface or a slight curvature, the shadow mask is set such that the layout distance between electron beam through hole array near the long side of an effective surface of the shadow mask is larger in the vicinity of the short axis than the layout distance at the center of the effective surface. Further, the layout distance becomes gradually smaller in direction away from the short axis, and thereafter, the layout distance changes to an increase. In the vicinity of the short side of the effective surface, the layout distance becomes equal to or larger than the layout distance near the short axis. Therefore, the curvature of the shadow mask and the electron beam through hole array are set in proper condition, and mislanding of beam landing due to deformation or oscillation of the shadow mask can be reduced. At the same time, howling of the phosphor screen can be minimized.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1999Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Norio Shimizu, Shinichiro Nakagawa, Takuya Mashimo, Masatsugu Inoue

Patent number: 6388367Abstract: An aperture grille which can suppress vibrations of a flat grille without marring the appearance of a screen by not arranging damper lines inside an effective screen region of a cathode-ray tube. A pair of damper members 130A and 130B for damping the vibrations of a flat grille 110 are provided in upper and lower regions of the flat grille 110 outside an effective screen region of a cathode-ray tube. The damper members 130A and 130B are supported under a given tension by support members 132 and 134 mounted on second frames 124A and 124B of a frame member, thereby keeping pressure contact with the surface of the flat grille 110. Because the damper members 130A and 130B are not exposed to the effective screen region of the cathode-ray tube, the damper members 130A and 130B are out of sight from the front side of the screen, thus suppressing the vibrations of the flat grille 110 without marring the appearance of the screen.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1998Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Sony CorporationInventor: Hiromichi Taguchi

Patent number: 6388368Abstract: A color cathode ray tube includes a magnetic shield housed in a funnel portion thereof and a deflection device mounted in a vicinity of a transition region between a plurality of electron beams on a phosphor screen. The magnetic shield is configured so as to satisfy the inequality Dcor<Dave, where Dave=(Dverm+Dhorm+Dcor)/3. Magnetic shield-core distances are measured in a section plane containing a longitudinal axis of the cathode ray tube and inclined at a section plane angle &thgr; with respect to a horizontal scanning direction of the plurality of electron beams. Dverm and Dhorm are magnetic shield-core distances measured at section plane angles 0° and 90°, respectively, and Dcor is a magnetic shield-core distance measured in a section plane intersecting a corner of a generally rectangular end of the magnetic shield facing toward an electron gun.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Noriharu Matsudate, Yasushi Sawatari, Atsuo Nakagawa, Hidehiro Koumura
