Abstract: The invention relates to a flat color CRT in which the upper plate width of a frame for tensioning and fixing a shadow mask is enlarged so that the CRT is free from an influence from howling of the shadow mask and welding and productivity of the shadow mask and the frame may be simplified. The shadow mask assembly comprises a shadow mask having an effective area with slots and a non-effective area without slots in the periphery; and a frame fixing body for tensioning the shadow mask; wherein the shortest distance tM from the outermost end of a main frame welded to the shadow mask to the interface between the effective area and the non-effective area and the width tW of the mask welding part formed at the upper part of the main frame have the relation of 0.14 ≤ t W t M ≤ 1.0 .

  • Patent number: 6724138
Abstract: The present invention provides a color cathode ray including a pair of long frames, a pair of opposing short frames that are fixed to the pair of long frames and support the long frames, and a shadow mask fixed to the pair of long frames in a state applied with a tensile force. The short frames have substantially-triangular bent parts formed to protrude toward the shadow mask. Since such a cathode ray tube can decrease an internal moment of the shadow mask structure, the displacement of the shadow mask in a direction to recede from the phosphor screen surface of the color cathode ray tube can be suppressed and the q-value deviation also can be suppressed even if the shadow mask is expanded by heat generated by an impact of electron beams.

  • Patent number: 6717345
Abstract: A method and apparatus of maintaining spacing between tension focus mask strands in a tension focus mask. The method includes providing a tension focus mask comprising busbars with crosswires connected therebetween. A permanent adhesive is applied to the screen-side of the mask strands. Next, novel non-permanent horizontal guide members are attached to the gun-side of the mask strands, where an adhesive is applied to the guide member before the guide members are applied to the mask. The guide members maintain the vertical mask strand spacing during: (1) the application of the horizontal crosswires to the screen-side of the mask and (2) the subsequent thermal processing. The thermal processing cures the adhesive on the screen-side of the mask, thereby: (1) permanently attaching the crosswires to the mask strands and (2) volatilizing the adhesive on the gun-side of the mask strands such that the non-permanent guide member detach from the mask strands.

Abstract: Due to a slit formed in the dead space, a cathode ray tube capable of preventing incorrect hitting of color electron beams caused by the local doming phenomenon from occurring and thus preventing displacement of colors, unevenness in colors, and deterioration of luminance from occurring is provided. The cathode ray tube comprises a shadow mask having an effective area where lines of apertures for passing electron beams are arranged and a dead space formed on both outer sides of the effective area. In the dead space, a slit extending along the lines of the apertures is formed. One exemplary embodiment of the reduced cross-sectional area aperture grill tape includes a central longitudinal channel in a side of the aperture grill tape that faces away from the screen. The reduction in cross-sectional area reduces a linear density of the tape thereby decreasing the tension required by the frame. As each of the aperture grill tapes includes this central longitudinal channel, the weight of the overall aperture grill is significantly reduced and the aperture grill frame weight is reduced due to the lower aperture grill tension. A method for producing the reduced cross-sectional area aperture grill tape is possible without significantly increasing the cost of manufacturing the aperture grill tape.

Abstract: In the manufacturing process of a color display tube (1), the display window (3) is assembled with the funnel shaped part (4) in a furnace by subjecting them to a heat treatment. This heat treatment can lead to deformation of the color selection electrode (12), because in color display tubes (1) with an invar shadow mask (13), the diaphragm parts (15) are made from invar as well, while the corner sections (16) are made from iron in order to obtain enough stiffness. The difference in expansion coefficient between invar and iron leads to shearing of the welds (22) that connect the diaphragm parts (15) to the corner section (16). To overcome this problem the invention proposes to provide the diaphragm parts (15) with slits (23) or impressions (24), which are arranged so that no stress occurs between the spot welds (22) when the color selection electrode (12) is heated.

Abstract: A color display tube (1) is disclosed having an improved suspension system of the color selection electrode (12). The positional stability of the color selection electrode (12) is of eminent importance for the color purity of the color display tube (1). If the color selection electrode (12) slightly shifts, the electron beams (7,8,9) may impinge on electroluminescent material of the wrong color, leading to discolorations. It is recognized that this positional stability is improved by applying free end portions (22) of a smaller diameter on the supporting elements (17) because this will lower the friction between the free end portions (22) and the suspension means (20). This smaller diameter has the disadvantage that the insertion of the color selection electrode (12) into the display window (3) of the color display tube (1) becomes more difficult. Abstract: A cathode ray tube comprising: a panel; a funnel engaged to the panel for forming a vacuous space; and a shadow mask supported in the cathode ray tube by being fixed to a mask frame and including an effective surface having a plurality of electron beam passing holes at a center thereof, an ineffective surface formed at a periphery of the effective surface and not having the electron beam passing holes and a skirt portion extended from the ineffective surface towards a vertical direction thereof and welded to the mask frame. In the cathode ray tube, a slot of a predetermined size is formed between welding points by which the skirt portion is welded to the mask frame, and a height of the slot from an end of the skirt portion is higher than that of the welding points, thereby reducing a doming effect of the shadow mask, reducing a mis-landing which the electron beam does not land to a precise landing point, and thus preventing a color purity of a screen from being deteriorated.

  • Patent number: 6650071
Abstract: In color display tubes (1) with a dotted shadow mask (13) structure and an in-line electron gun (10), the geometry of the screen (6) and the deflection field produced by the deflection unit (11) cause triad rotation, which is a rotation of the three phosphor dots (red, green and blue) corresponding to one aperture of the shadow mask (13) with respect to the horizontal scan lines (35). This problem can be solved by giving the horizontal lines (35) a curved shape. However, in the prior art situation a parabolic shape is used, leading to severe moiré problems, because the vertical pitch asv (38) is influenced too strongly at the vertical screen edges. This problem can be overcome by using fourth order or even sixth order terms in the shape of the horizontal lines (35). A pure fourth order function reduces the vertical pitch asv 38 variation by 50% with respect to the parabolic prior-art situation, and a pure sixth order function even leads to a reduction by 67%.
