  • Patent number: 6104132
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube comprises a vacuum envelope in which there is mounted a shadow mask having a curved surface having a plurality of electron beam passing holes and a skirt extending downward from the margin of the curved surface. The shadow mask is supported by a mask frame having a substantially rectangular side wall. A shadow mask assembly constituted by fitting and securing the skirt into the side wall is set in the panel of the envelope, and the skirt is fitted and secured into the side wall by curving the middles of two or four facing sides of the skirt inward. Thereby, it is possible to provide a color cathode ray tube having the shadow mask assembly capable of obtaining a superior magnetic shielding characteristic by enlarging the effective region of the curved surface of the shadow mask.

  • Patent number: 6051918
Abstract: A body of a shadow mask having a skirt portion around the body, wherein cut parts are formed in the skirt portion in the vicinity of corner portions and center portions of the short sides and the length of the skirt portion in the corner portions is longer than the length of the skirt portion in the center portions of the short sides. This enables residual distortion generated during welding with a mask frame and a thermal expansion generated later to be absorbed at the skirt portion, thus restraining the deformation generated by heating a curved surface of the shadow mask. As a result, it is possible to realize cost reduction and to improve productivity in manufacturing a color picture tube without deteriorating the color purity in the color picture tube by preventing the thermal deformation of the curved surface of a shadow mask during manufacturing processes of the color picture tube without a dummy baking process.

  • Patent number: 5880555
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube for permitting electron beams emitted from an electron gun to pass through apertures of a shadow mask and collide onto phosphors coated on the inner surface of a panel to thereby reproduce image information includes a magnetic shielding body which, for decreasing an influence of a terrestrial magnetic field, is formed of a rectangularly-shaped magnetic material and has one ends supported by the shadow mask to be symmetrical along the horizontal and vertical axes of the tube, and a plurality of notches formed into the magnetic shielding body are classified by the horizontal and vertical axes to be distributed asymmetrical with respect to the horizontal or vertical axes within four quadrants partitioned by the horizontal and vertical axes. Thus, the quantity of the landing variation in a specific portion having the greater quantity of the landing variation is reduced during the change of an outer magnetic field or the direction shift of the cathode ray tube.

Abstract: A combination structure of the shadow mask and the mask frame is a combination structure including a shadow mask, being disposed inside a panel of a color cathode-ray tube and a mask frame, supporting the shadow mask. The combination structure is that the shadow mask is inserted in the mask frame so as to touch internally the skirt portion of the shadow mask on the flange portion, and then their contact portions are adhered to each other by welding process so as to serve to decrease the amount of doming together with miss-landing of electron beams, and to improve color purity of the screen when it is applied to a color cathode-ray tube. And the flange portion is curved from the welding point where the flange portion and the skirt portion are welded, toward the outer direction of the mask frame.

To assure the characteristic frequency of the aperture grill, it becomes unnecessary to manufacture individually frames having rigidities corresponding to respective slit pitches of the apertured grill. The frame can be a general purpose one (i.e., one used in common with others), thereby allowing the manufacture to be simplified. Further, the suppoting member can be also used in common with others, thereby allowing the design to be simplified.
