Magnetic Field Acceleration Means Patents (Class 315/501)
  • Patent number: 5557178
Abstract: A circular particle accelerator includes a twist element at one location in its ring lattice which interchanges horizontal and vertical betatron oscillations upon each particle passage. Two traversals of the ring are required to return the particle to a corresponding state, thus the accelerator is termed a "Mobius" accelerator. The resultant toggling between transverse oscillation modes causes the accelerator to have remarkable properties, very different and in important ways superior to a conventional circular accelerator. Beam brightness can be increased by increasing the strength of focusing elements in the lattice while still preserving large amplitude stability. Furthermore, the resulting round particle beams generated by the accelerator are shown to be robust against beam-beam interaction, thus permitting use of the accelerator with unseparated, counter-rotating particle beams.

  • Patent number: 5457361
Abstract: An ion removing device includes an ion inducing electrode provided in a vacuum container in a deflection portion of an electron accumulating ring along an inner peripheral wall of the vacuum container, an ion removing electrode provided in the vacuum container near each of ports of the defection portion of the electron accumulating ring, and a power source for applying a voltage to both the ion inducing electrode and the ion removing electrodes. An ion removing method includes the steps of inducing ions trapped by a potential generated by an electron beam to ports of a deflection portion of an electron accumulating ring by forming an electric field in a vacuum container in the deflection portion, and removing the ions which have been inducted to the ports of the defection portion.

  • Patent number: 5430359
Abstract: A radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ), which is a combination of the standard 4-vane and 4-rod designs, with a window or windows cut through mid-portions of the normally solid vanes. The windows decrease the resonant frequency, minimize undesirable mode coupling in the RFQ and result in a smaller and more easily tuned accelerator.

  • Patent number: 5399873
Abstract: Disclosed is a microtron electron accelerator having an accelerating cavity accepting microwave electric power for generating a high-frequency accelerating electric field E disposed within a uniform magnetic field B and adapted such that electrons are accelerated and caused to move in a circular trajectory under action of the magnetic field B and the electric field E, comprising an electron source formed of a cathode and an anode, which has a minute slit allowing an electron beam extracted from the cathode to pass therethrough, disposed on the outer side of the wall of the accelerating cavity, a first electron beam through-hole and a second electron beam through-hole formed in the wall of the accelerating cavity in two positions, with the electron source therebetween, along the decreasing or increasing direction of the strength of the electric field E in the accelerating cavity, and a third electron beam through-hole formed in the wall of the accelerating cavity in a position in confrontation with the first e

  • Patent number: 5376893
Abstract: An electron accelerator for accelerating a first electron beam includes a resonant cavity, a source of electromagnetic energy for supplying the resonant cavity at a resonant frequency of the resonant cavity and for forming a second electron beam and injecting the second electron beam into the resonant cavity. The second electron beam is decelerated by the electromagnetic fields of the resonant cavity and the first electron beam is in phase opposition to the second electron beam.

  • Patent number: 5374913
Abstract: A superconducting magnet for use in a particle accelerator of the synchotron type is disclosed. The disclosed magnet includes twin bores, each having beam pipes therein. A flux pipe is provided between the twin bores such that a 360.degree. magnetic flux path is formed. A superconducting coil encircles the bores and flux pipe, for generating the transverse magnetic field across the beam pipes. The flux pipe may be formed of non-magnetic material for a linear magnet, or alternatively may be formed of ferromagnetic laminations parallel to the direction of the magnetic field to form a superferric magnet with minimal eddy current generation. The flux pipe includes magnetic stress relief bubbles near the bores, compensating for the crowding effect near the inner radius of the flux pipe.
