  • Publication number: 20150145524
Abstract: A method and system for determining short, open, and good connections using digital input and output (IO) structures in a device under test (DUT) continuity test, through the combined methods of using resistance-capacitance (RC) delay, time domain reflectometry (TDR), and forcing voltage on to a single IO pin of the DUT while measuring voltage on remaining IO pins of said DUT. In one embodiment, the combined methods are executed without the DUT in a test socket to produce a first set of test values and also with the DUT in a test socket to produce a second set of test values. The first and second sets of test values are compared to determine if one or more circuits of the DUT have a short circuit, an open circuit, or are a good (have an electrical connection that is not a short circuit or an open circuit) circuit.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a power circuit having multiple stages of charge pumps. The power circuit comprises a first charge pump, a second charge pump, a voltage stabilizing capacitor, and an output capacitor. The first charge pump adjusts an input voltage and produces a first output voltage. The second charge pump adjusts the first output voltage, produces a second output voltage, and outputs the second output voltage for driving a loading. The voltage stabilizing capacitor is coupled between the first and second charge pumps and connected externally to the output of the first charge pump. The output capacitor is coupled to the second charge pump for providing the second output voltage. According to the present invention, the effect of supplying large transient currents to the loading can be achieved by connecting externally the voltage stabilizing capacitor to the output of the first charge pump.

Abstract: When a poor meter to socket connection occurs, there is the potential for arcing to develop which can result in a hot socket and a fire. Disclosed herein are methods for a meter to detect the occurrence of an arc condition in the socket by analyzing the RF noise on the channels of the communication spectrum used by the meter to communicate within its metering system. For example, by keeping a record of the normal background noise and looking for a broadband increase in the noise on all channels, arc detection can be achieved. Meter quantities such as temperature, current, voltage, and harmonic content may also be used in a standalone manner or in combination with broadband RF noise to detect an arc condition. A disconnect switch within the meter can be opened to remove the arc fault.

Abstract: A system and method described herein detects the presence of an unconnected condition in high voltage component cables in an electric or hybrid-electric vehicle having a high voltage battery or energy storage system. The system includes a DC-DC converter which is capable of operating in either a step-down mode (e.g., as a buck converter) or a boost mode. The system uses the DC-DC converter operating in boost mode to create a sufficient, yet safe, measuring voltage on the main high voltage cabling of the vehicle before allowing the energy storage system to begin supplying high voltage power to the system components. The measurements are taken at various points near the individual components to determine if the cable has become disconnected.

Abstract: A repairable waterproof connector assembly (200) provides an access port (212) within the connector housing (201) to support wire management required for removal and reinstallation of the electrical insert (202) which can be achieved without removing the connector assembly (200) from its cable. Adding this access capability greatly reduces the time required to repair a damaged connector assembly (200). Wire management within the connector assembly (200) includes manipulating a wiring service loop (207) via access provided by the access port (212). Wire management supports access to reposition, remove, test and repair the electrical insert (202) having electrical pins and contacts (211). In applications requiring waterproof connectors, having the ability to test and repair the connector assembly without removing or cutting it from its cable is a significant timesaver and reduces cost.
