  • Patent number: 6595836
Abstract: A calibration device for a pad conditioner head of a CMP machine includes a lower first horizontal member defining an arcuate reference surface having a shape complementary to that of the outer peripheral edge of the platen of the machine, an upper second horizontal member spaced vertically from the first member and having a reference mark thereon lying in the projected plane of the reference surface, and a connecting member interconnecting the first member and second member. When the reference surface of the first horizontal member of the calibration device is be butted against the outer peripheral edge of the platen adjacent the head of the pad conditioner, the location of the outermost portion of the head of the pad conditioner relative to the reference mark is readily observable. Thus, the extent to which the outermost portion of the head of the pad conditioner is vertically aligned relative to the outer peripheral edge of the platen can be easily and accurately determined.

  • Patent number: 6543141
Abstract: A safety ruler and guide used with a rotary cutter or the cutting tool for cutting fabric, the ruler designed to protect a user's first hand when holding the ruler on top of the fabric while the second hand is cutting the fabric with the cutting tool. The ruler has a vertical guard mounted exactly upright to a base guide, dividing the base equally into a first side and a second side. Each first side and second side display grids, ruler measurements and measuring scale to enable a right or left handed user to properly read and measure length and width of the fabric being cut. The first side and second side also include a ruler edge for measuring the length of fabric being cut, and serving as a guide and cutting edge for the rotary cutter. The user may then cut the fabric using the cutting tool without the cutting tool or fabric moving during cutting. In the event the cutting tool slips while cutting, the hand holding and applying pressure to the ruler is protected by the vertical guard.

Abstract: A guiding device wherein an illustrated embodiment of the guiding device includes an elongated finger-resting surface, an elongated upstanding section, and an elongated first scale-supporting section. The upstanding section is positioned between the first scale-supporting section and the finger-resting section. The first scale is an elongated, narrow strip having a first scale surface rigidly and unreleasably attached to the first scale-supporting section of the second portion. The first scale has a second scale surface opposite to the first scale surface. The second scale surface has first indicia to indicate predetermined lengths along the first scale. The finger-resting surface permits fingers of a user gripping the guiding device to be positioned on the finger-resting surface while being protected from an implement by the upstanding section during movement of the implement along the guiding device, adjacent the first scale.

  • Patent number: 6434844
Abstract: A see-thru engineering instrument has markings defining sets of longitudinal reference lines along its length. The reference lines are disposed inwardly of the side edges, and define segmentation patterns distinct to each set, distinguishing lines of the respective sets from each other. Lines of respective sets are preferably interposed each between respective lines of ones of another set or sets. Line segments in a single instrument, of the like illustrated, can define discrete measurable distances of any one, up to all, of {fraction (1/16)}, ⅛, {fraction (3/16)}, ¼, ½, ¾, {fraction (13/16)}, ⅞ and {fraction (15/16)} inch. The back surface of the instrument preferably has a matte finish. The width of the instrument is greater than 3 inches, preferably about 4 inches. The length is greater than 12 inches, preferably about 13 inches. The thickness is preferably about {fraction (1/16)} inch. The length/width ratio is at least {fraction (2/1)}.

  • Patent number: 6315469
Abstract: A tool and a method for adjusting a space between a printhead in a print cartridge and a platen in an ink jet printer are disclosed. The shape of the tool mimics the shape of a print cartridge. The tool is inserted into an aperture in a carriage in place of the print cartridge whose printhead is the closest to the platen, or, if all of the printheads are equally close to the platen, then the tool may be inserted in place of any of the print cartridges. The tool includes a thin flexible member that extends toward the platen. The length of the member is such that, when the tool is properly inserted into the aperture and contacts the platen, then the printhead to platen spacing at that point on the platen would be just equal to a minimum acceptable spacing between a printhead in the same aperture and the platen.
