  • Patent number: 4791731
Abstract: A device for installing an article on a vertical surface is disclosed. The device includes a base and a first longitudinal member connected to the base. A second longitudinal member is slidable longitudinally relative the first member. The second longitudinal member is in a telescopic relationship with the first longitudinal member enabling the distal end of the second longitudinal member to be varied in vertical height relative to the base. A template frame is secured to the second member and a plurality of punches are disposed in the frame. The device also includes a lock for locking the relative position between the first and the second longitudinal members, enabling an operator to position the template frame a predetermined distance vertically above the base with the template frame being located in contact with the vertical surface to form an aperture in the vertical surface upon depression of at least one of the plurality of punches to install the article on the vertical surface thereby.

  • Patent number: 4759131
Abstract: A stylus is briefly placed on the surface coating of photographs for forming an artificial marking symbol on the coating. The stylus oscillates in the ultrasonic frequency range. Part of the oscillation energy of the stylus is converted into frictional heat producing a marking symbol in the coating in the form of a high contrast annular bead. The apparatus comprises a stylus, a mechanical lowering device, an electroacoustic transducer for producing the ultrasonic oscillations of the stylus, and a frequency generator, an amplifier and a voltage/current converter connected in series with the electroacoustic transducer. The transducer is supplied with a signal from the frequency generator, which signal is kept constant by a control circuit provided on the generator.

  • Patent number: 4690521
Abstract: A device and method are disclosed for making reference marks on a microscope slide. The device includes a member for mounting the device to a microscope. A marking nib is provided to selectively place a reference mark on the slide at a preselected position relative to an object of interest on the slide. A mechanism is further provided for maintaining the same preselected position relative to all objects of interest marked on a slide including a member for moving the nib in at least two generally orthogonally aligned directions within a horizontal plane to permit adjustment and calibration of the preselected position relative to the objects of interest. A plunger member activates the nib and selectively reference marks the slide. Finally, the device includes a mechanism for selectively varying the size of the mark and for automatically maintaining the size once selected.

  • Patent number: 4670990
Abstract: A marking gauge employed for locating positions indicative of construction patterns of components of articles of furniture includes an elongated ruler positionable at a location representative of a component of an article of furniture on which is to be mounted at least one furniture fitting, and a plurality of templates which are representative of the respective furniture fittings. The templates are adjustably mounted along the ruler at predetermined different locations. Each template has structure for, when such template is mounted at a selected predetermined location along the ruler, locating a position indicative of a predetermined construction pattern of a component of the article of furniture.

  • Patent number: 4669926
Abstract: A drill guide apparatus and method for its use is disclosed. The apparatus includes, in one embodiment, first and second vise jaws for clamping a workpiece. The vise jaws are adapted to receive a drill guide holder which includes first and second elongate members which properly position the drill guide itself. One end of each of the elongate members is attached to each of the vise jaws by pins which pass through the member and into a hole in the top of the vise jaw. The opposite ends of the elongate members are positioned above the space between the vise jaws and are hinged together by a ferrule which passes through the two members. A cylndrical drill guide which has a hole therethrough adapted in size to accept a particular size drill bit is fitted into the ferrule. The drill guide is thus located in a central position between the vise jaws above the workpiece which is clamped by the jaws.

  • Patent number: 4667412
Abstract: The invention provides a self-marking tape measure for hand-held use. A tape housing has a crosswise-positioned marker cartridge affixed removably in a marker cartridge channel through the housing base below the tape exit aperature. A marking substance like chalk or a soapstone composition formed into a three-surfaced triangular member with any edge being useful for marking comprises the marker cartridge. The marker cartridge is positioned in the marker cartridge channel and secured there by a spring-action snap lock. One edge of the marker cartridge protrudes downwardly through a slot in the tape housing base sufficiently to make a mark on a contacted surface when the tape housing is moved with a sideways motion. The points of two triangular sights in the upper opened walls of a tape support housing elongation are aligned with the protruding marker edge. The sights allow visual accurate tape measurements, and a sideways movement of the tape housing marks the measured position on a contacted surface.

  • Patent number: 4662080
Abstract: A measuring tool for laying out plane geometries by firmly fixing extendable legs with marking or indexing means in a configuration conformable to desired layouts. Once properly configured, the invention is physically transferred to a planar work piece and indices are transferred to the work piece, thus accomplishing transfer of measurements simply and without the use of rules or scales.

  • Patent number: 4654956
Abstract: Drilling apparatus is adapted for use with a computer controlled plotter to selectively use the plotter as an automatically positionable hole drilling device. A drill motor of the drilling apparatus is carried and manipulated by a carrier mechanism of the plotter in a manner similar to that in which a conventional plotter instrument is manipulated. A coupling apparatus is attached to the carrier mechanism for the purpose of selectively mechanically connecting to and establishing a pneumatic seal for supplying pressurized gas to operate the drill motor. An alignment apparatus is connected between the carrier mechanism and the drilling apparatus to position an axis through the drill bit of the drill motor orthogonal to the plotter table. An actuator apparatus moves the drill motor toward the plotter table to drill holes in the material positioned on the plotter table.
