Abstract: An apparatus directs two high-power UHF transmitter signals to one or the other or a combination of output destinations as determined by the setting of control components. Redirection between outputs can be performed continuously under full power. Using the apparatus, synchronous amplifiers directed to the same output produce a signal with all of the power of both amplifiers. The signals can be shifted to the station load without shutting down the amplifiers. After a failure, the remaining amplifier can be redirected to provide a clean signal.

Abstract: A novel junction design was developed for use with in-line combiner networks to minimize electrical length between the resonators being combined and to optimize coupling. It consists of a combiner comprising a plurality of cavity resonators coupled to a combining mechanism. The combining mechanism is placed outside of each resonator a prescribed distance above the ground plane. Combiner pairs are created by connecting two cavities to each other using quarter-wave lines. The central combiner pair is directly connected to the output connector through a common port. The quarter-wave junctions not directly connected to the output connector are then connected to the output port through half-wavelength lines. Iris or aperture coupling is controlled by a sliding cover that is adjusted using a free-rotating screw and is secured with locking screws to ensure good electrical and RF grounding.

The diplexer may be used reciprocally, has low insertion loss, is tuneable, has high signal isolation and impedance matching, and may be readily produced to meet the space requirements relating to size, temperature, radiation and performance. A method of tuning the resonators of the diplexer is also disclosed. Specific applications for the diplexer are also disclosed and include use in a GPS transmitter, GPS receiver and as part of an electronic scan array (ESA) antenna. The diplexer's small size and weight, and its resistance to the conditions of space make it ideal for use in satellite applications.

Abstract: A multi-channel feed network includes a main waveguide section (either square or circular) for connection to a satellite antenna for propagating two orthogonal polarizations. The feed network further includes a low pass section connected on axis with the main waveguide, the low pass section having the same cross section as the main waveguide, and a high pass section also connected perpendicular to the main waveguide. The low pass section includes a band reject filter (BRF) formed from slots cut to reject higher frequency signals. The high pass section can be a rectangular waveguide which functions to filter low frequency signals. The feed network can be configured to support a number of different polarizations. Orthogonal linear polarizations are provided for the high frequency bands by adding additional high pass sections connected by power dividers, and for the low frequency bands by adding a conventional OMT.

Abstract: Tuning method for a combiner filter (2) in an antenna (3) near system for base station equipment is disclosed. Transmitted signals related to the combiner filter are compared with each other. A spectral analysis of each of the transmitted signals is performed. The spectral analysis results regarding magnitudes and/or phases of the signals are compared. The combiner filter (2) is tuned based on the analysis in an iteration procedure until the combiner filter is in accordance with predetermined conditions.

  • Patent number: 6529098
Abstract: A transmitting and receiving apparatus comprises a transmit/receive feed operable to transmit signals to and receive signals from a source, a waveguide assembly coupled with the transmit/receive feed for propagating transmitted and received signals to and from the transmit/receive feed, and a receive isolation filter coupled with the waveguide assembly and operable to filter the dual-polarized received signals without separating the two components thereof and to provide the filtered dual-polarized received signals to a receiver so as to isolate the receiver from signals transmitted by the transmit/receive feed. Thus, both components of the received signals are filtered simultaneously along the same path of propagation, eliminating the need to split the components along separate paths, separately filter them, and then recombine them as in prior antennas.

Abstract: A signal divider/combiner (11) and method combines first and second frequency signals received by microstrip patch antennas (58, 48). A first transmission line stub (28) blocks the second frequency signals on the first signal receiving path, and a second transmission line stub (20) blocks the first frequency signals on the second signal receiving path providing increased signal levels at a receiver input (10). In one embodiment, the transmission line stubs are open-circuit stubs and are positioned a quarter-wavelength from a combining junction (12) formed from stripline transmission lines (14, 32, 50). The transmission line stubs (28, 20) also reduce radiation of the first frequency signal by the second antenna as well as radiation of the second frequency signal by the first antenna. In one embodiment, the first and second frequency signals are the L1 and L2 signals provided by the Global Positioning System.

Abstract: A waveguide type duplex filter (1) having first and second waveguides which each comprise filtering means tuned to a given frequency, comprises two halves (2, 3) having a conducting surface. Faces directed toward each other are formed with channels (7, 8, 9 and 10) which, when the halves have been assembled, constitute said waveguides. The filtering means are produced by means of a sheet (4) having a conducting surface arranged between the two halves (2, 3), and the conducting surface has openings which define and delimit resonators in the waveguides. The sheet (4) can be arranged in first and second positions. In the first position, the resonators in the first waveguide are tuned to a first frequency, while the resonators in the second waveguide are tuned to a second frequency. In the second position, the resonators in the first waveguide are tuned to the second frequency, while the resonators in the second waveguide are tuned to the first frequency.

Abstract: A high frequency wireless circuit apparatus is formed by connecting a phase shifter between an antenna duplexer and a low noise amplifier, so that the impedance of the receiving terminal of the antenna duplexer at a transmission frequency and the input impedance of the low noise amplifier may not be matched in complex conjugates of each other. Therefore it prevents the transmission output passing through the receiving terminal of the antenna duplexer and the interference signal entered through the antenna from making the cross modulation in the low noise amplifier. Thus it improves the reception sensitivity and immunity to interference signals of the high frequency wireless circuit apparatus at the same time.
