Publication number: 20010043126Abstract: An apparatus and a method of electrically filtering unwanted noise signals between a computer sub-system and a power sub-system is disclosed. The computer sub-system and the power sub-system are housed within an electrically conducting housing which includes a partition between the computer sub-system and the power sub-system. The apparatus includes a bus bar connected between the power sub-system and the computer sub-system for providing direct current energy between the power sub-system and the computer sub-system. A dielectric material encompasses the bus bar. An electrically conducting material encompasses the dielectric material and is connected to the electrically conducting housing. A virtual capacitor is thereby formed between the bus bar and the housing, providing a path of least resistance for the unwanted noise signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 1999Publication date: November 22, 2001Inventors: ANDREW MICHAEL CHERNISKI, GERALD J. Patent number: 6271678Abstract: A ferrite bead is placed in series with a terminating resistor on a transmission line such as a clock transmission line. In lower frequency ranges where the ferrite bead is substantially not effective, the transmission line will be effectively terminated by the resistor. In higher frequency ranges where the resistor is substantially no longer effective, the transmission line will be terminated by the ferrite bead. In one aspect, the resistor and ferrite bead are provided in a single surface mount package.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1999Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Cisco Technology Inc.Inventor: Philippe Sochoux

Patent number: 6225876Abstract: A feed-through EMI filter includes a hollow outer conductor, an inner conductor passing through the outer conductor, and a composite magnetic material of magnetic metal flakes disposed between the outer conductor and the inner conductor. Both ends of the outer conductor are closed by insulating lids supporting the inner conductor in a feed-through arrangement. The composite magnetic material has a higher complex relative permeability at GHz frequencies than ferrites and produces a large insertion loss.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignees: Electromagnetic Compatibility Research Laboratories Co., Ltd., TDK CorporationInventors: Tadaharu Akino, Takashi Tanaka, Hisanori Sasaki, Yoshiaki Akachi, Tadashige Konno

Patent number: 6181571Abstract: A printed-wiring board is incorporated into an electronic device housing constructed of a conductive member, and has a ground pattern. A metal plate having a size equal to or larger than the printed-wiring board is disposed in a position facing to the printed-wiring board. The metal plate has a characteristic impedance corresponding to an electric characteristic and a relative position to the printed-wiring board. A connecting member electrically connects the ground pattern of the printed-wiring board to the metal plate, and includes an impedance element having a value substantially equal to the characteristic impedance between the printed-wiring board and the metal plate. An occurrence of radiant noises caused by standing-waves etc. is thereby prevented.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Satoshi Sugimoto

Patent number: 6165019Abstract: An in-line and ninety degree filter assembly is provided in the present invention for coupling a coaxial cable thereto. The coaxial cable has a coaxial wire disposed therein. The filter assembly includes a filter body that has a first end and a second end spaced apart from the first end. A circuit board is secured within the filter body for filtering electrical signals received from the coaxial cable. The circuit board includes a center coax in electrical and mechanical communication with the circuit board and a ground lead connected to the circuit board and protruding therefrom for electrically and mechanically communicating with the filter body upon installation of the circuit board into the filter body such that the circuit board is electrically grounded to the filter body.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventors: Thong B. Patent number: 6127903Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a housing having a first body portion and a second body portion which mate together to enclose an accessible inner portion of the housing. Filtering elements disposed within the inner portion filter signals transmitted through a pair of signal carriers which pass through the inner portion. A pair of guides disposed within the inner portion maintain the electrical conductors in a predetermined positional relationship with certain of the filter elements. The guides are each actuated by placing a signal carrier against a predetermined portion of the guide and applying manual pressure against the signal carriers to cause the signal carrier to be pressed into a the predetermined positional relationship. Certain embodiments include contact push posts which pierce an insulating layer of a corresponding signal carrier to make electrical contact with the signal carrier. Other embodiments include a cutting element to sever the signal carriers to implement a four-terminal filter.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Broadcom HomeNetworking, Inc.Inventor: Peter F.
