  • Patent number: 8830018
Abstract: A solenoid-driven automatic bus transfer switch may automatically transfer one or more electrical loads from a first power source to a second power source, or vice versa, in the event of a power failure or other casualty that affects either power source. The transfer switch may be operated in response to the energization of a solenoid coil, which causes a main shaft having a transfer element to rotate from being in contact with the first power source to being in contact with the second power source. The transfer element may be spring-mounted to the shaft, which ensures that a sufficient electrical contact exists between the surfaces of the transfer element and the respective leads of the first and second power sources, regardless of any wear or degradation that may be experienced at any of the surfaces.

  • Patent number: 8134429
Abstract: An electrical appliance designed according to the principle of a fork connection, and into which a contact element is insertable between two contact clips. In the event of high currents, such as those which can occur in the event of short circuits in a load which is connected to the fork connection, magnetic forces counteract current constriction forces, thus allowing higher currents to be carried through the connection without the contact clips being bent apart from one another in the process. This is achieved in that a magnetic field caused by a current is concentrated in a particularly advantageous manner for production of forces which draw the two clip contacts together with the aid of a part at least partially composed of a ferromagnetic material, one of which in at least one embodiment, is arranged between the contact clips.

A resistor is electrically connected between the first and second terminals to limit current flowing through the electric circuit when the first and second fixed contacts are electrically disconnected by a movable contact. The resistor is received in the contact cover and interposed between the magnetic plate and the first and second fixed contacts in the axial direction.

Abstract: An electromagnetic switch for use in actuating a starter for automotive vehicles is provided. The switch includes fixed contacts, a moving contact, and a plunger shaft. The moving contact is joined to a plunger shaft through an insulator. The plunger shaft is to be moved magnetically to bring the moving contact into abutment with the fixed contact to establish electric communication between the fixed contact. The switch also includes a rotation holder working to hold the moving contact and the insulator from rotating relative to each other. Use of the rotation holder results in a decrease in wear of the insulator. This eliminates the need for the insulator to have an additional thickness which would be worn down, thus permitting the insulator to be reduced in thickness to shorten the overall length of the switch.
