  • Patent number: 8674801
Abstract: An element for forming an induction component contains a coil body with a core and two radially projecting flanges, which are formed on the respective axial ends of the core and of which the one flange is designed to be attached to a printed circuit board and is larger than the other flange. On its outer side, the coil body is surrounded by a shielding ring, which sits on the larger of the two flanges. To this end, the shielding ring has an inwardly directed step on the lower end corner, the one limb of which step forms an abutment surface to be placed on the inner side of the flange. The other limb forms an abutment surface to be placed against the outer edge of the flange. The step preferably runs over the entire circumference of the shielding ring. As a result, an air gap formed between the upper flange and the inner side of the shielding ring is fixed in terms of its dimensions and position.

Abstract: A reactor 1? includes a coil 2 formed by winding a wire 2w, a magnetic core 3 that is disposed inside and outside of the coil 2 and forms a closed magnetic circuit, and a case 4 that has an opening portion and a bottom surface 40 that opposes the opening portion and that houses an assembly 10 of the coil 2 and the magnetic core 3. At least the opening portion of the case 4 side of the magnetic core 3 is formed of a molded solid body that contains magnetic powder and resin. A surface layer 5, which prevents the magnetic powder from rusting, is provided on a surface of the magnetic core 3 on the opening portion of the case 4 side. The surface layer 5 has a resin portion formed of resin similar to the resin contained in the magnetic core 3. The resin portion is formed so as to be continuous with the resin contained in the magnetic core 3 without an interface formed therebetween.

Abstract: A reactor having a good heat dissipation effect is provided. The reactor includes one coil formed by winding a wire, a magnetic core arranged inside and outside the coil and forming a closed magnetic circuit, and a case for housing an assembly of the coil and the magnetic core. An end surface of the coil has a race track shape, and the coil is housed in the case such that the axial direction of the coil is parallel to an outer bottom surface of the case 4. A part of an outer peripheral surface of the coil is covered with the magnetic core (outer core portion, and a remaining part thereof not covered with the magnetic core is contacted with an inner bottom surface of the case. Since a part (mainly a linear portion) of the outer peripheral surface of the coil is directly contacted with the inner bottom surface of the case, heat of the coil can be directly dissipated such that the heat is released through the case to an installation target, e.g., a water cooling base, on which the case is installed.

  • Patent number: 8378775
Abstract: Transformers (1) for transforming primary signals into secondary signals comprise primary and secondary parts that comprise boards (11-14, 21-23) with turns. By introducing distances larger than zero between for example any pair of neighboring boards (11-14, 21-23), parasitic capacitances of the transformers (1) are reduced, and the secondary signals may comprise relatively fast/high voltage pulses having rise times >1 kV/?sec. To reduce proximity effects and any resulting losses, the primary and secondary boards (11-14, 21-23) may be stacked in interleaved ways. Such sandwich constructions reduce leakage inductances. In a particular direction, distances between subsequent primary boards (11-14, 21-23) and distances between subsequent combinations of primary and secondary boards (11-14, 21-23) are to be increased to further reduce capacitive losses in that particular direction.

  • Patent number: 8373530
Abstract: The invention comprises a power converter method and apparatus, which is optionally part of a filtering method and apparatus. A corona potential is the potential for long term breakdown of winding wire insulation due to the high electric potentials between winding turns winding a mid-level power inductor in a converter system. The high electric potential creates ozone, which breaks down insulation coating the winding wire and results in degraded performance or failure of the inductor. In one embodiment, the inductor is configured with inductor winding spacers, such as a main inductor spacer and/or inductor segmenting winding spacers. The spacers are used to space winding turns of a winding coil about an inductor. The insulation of the inductor spacer minimizes energy transfer between windings and thus minimizes corona potential, formation of corrosive ozone through ionization of oxygen, correlated breakdown of insulation on the winding wire, and electrical shorts in the inductor.
