  • Patent number: 5033207
Abstract: A material web to be dried runs across a first drying cylinder onto which it is forced by a concurrently running continuous drying wire. Thereafter, the web and the drying wire proceed jointly from the first drying cylinder to a suction guide roll. From the latter, at least the drying wire returns to another drying cylinder. This path of the drying wire defines a wire space S. Blown into this wire space, for instance by means of a blow pipe, is drying air at uniform distribution across the machine width and sucked out again by the suction guide roll. This suction air is blown at the material web by means of a circulation air fan, at the circumference of the suction guide roll, and is sucked away again from there by means of an exhaust air fan.

Abstract: Method and device in a press section of a paper machine for detaching a web from a smooth face of a press roll. Momentary and local heating effect is directed at the web from outside the roll within the area or vicinity of a detaching point thereof. Material is used as the mantle or outer coating of the smooth-face roll which is at least somewhat magnetically conductive. An inductive heating effect is applied to the roll mantle free of contact therewith, and of such a high frequency, that depth of penetration of the heating effect remains sufficiently low in view of the local and momentary nature. Due to this heating effect, water present between the web and roll face is heated, even vaporized locally within the area of the detaching point, thereby detaching the web from the roll face. Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for controlling or regulating shrinkage and/or stretching of a paper web transversely to the transport direction thereof in a drying section of a paper machine, this drying section having the form of a cylinder dryer (6) and/or a fan dryer. At a point in the drying process at which the paper web exhibits a dry solids content of at most 75%, the paper (10) is subjected to an outwardly directed force which is forced to act in the edge portion (10a, 10b) of the web. The forces are caused to act adjacent parallel edge portions (10a, 10b) of the paper web and are directed away from each other. The magnitude of these forces is selected so that they fall beneath shrinkage forces occurring momentary on the paper web at the dry solids content in question by at most 50%.

  • Patent number: 4516330
Abstract: The surfaces of cylinders or fabrics moving in the press or drying section of a paper machine induce layers of air along with them, which layers of air produce positive and negative pressures at the pits or nips defined by the fabrics or web and the surface of the cylinder. The positive and negative pressures are detrimental to the mutual support contact between the web and the fabric. A method for eliminating the detrimental positive and negative pressures affects the pressure levels at the nips by blowing air in directions opposite to the direction of travel of the web or fabric passing close to a blowing device, and possibly also opposite to the direction of travel of the cylinder surface. As a result of the blowing of air, air is ejected from the pressurized nips or from spaces placed facing the nips of negative pressure on the opposite side of the running of the web and the fabric. Apparatus for carrying out the method includes a blow box placed in connection with the nip.
