Patent number: 8049602Abstract: The present invention describes a car anti-theft system. Specifically, the present invention has an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) patterned onto a visible surface of a vehicle. Vehicle theft is recognized when an unauthorized driver fails to enter a predetermined code, resulting in lighting of OLED. Lighted OLED may be seen by passers-by who may then alert police that a car is in the process of being stolen. Alternatively and additionally, OLED's may be integrated into primary car alarm systems so as to add an additional, visual, layer of car protection.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Inventors: Alan Joseph Bauer, Philippe Daniel Blumenthal, Dorit Shiff

Publication number: 20110221566Abstract: A directional, wireless, user-authenticating electronic token is disclosed. The token is embedded as an integrated system (generally, within a protective electronic enclosure). Typically the present invention includes a fingerprint sensor, a processor, a power source, a token transceiver and antenna, and orientation indicia. The antenna propagates highly directional signals. This allows users to orient (i.e., “aim”) token signals toward intended transceivers (POS machines, doors, computers, etc.), while reducing risks of transacting with “unintended” transceivers outside the aimed beam. The present invention offers an improved design for electronic wireless hardware tokens: providing versatile, secure, directional, wireless, user-authenticating devices (e.g., advanced ID cards, smartcards, hybrid cards, dongles, etc.). Such devices reduce risk of unintended emissions (i.e., signals radiating in the direction of unintended transceivers).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2005Publication date: September 15, 2011Inventor: Douglas Kozlay

Patent number: 7394347Abstract: The operating control system can be use on electronic equipment, such as cell phones, computers, engine analyzers, etc. An input device enables the input of user access data and a readout panel monitors the equipment status. A programmable feature selection member enables the user to select at least one programmable feature and respective activation time period. An internal member controls operation of the equipment by controlling access to one or more said programmable features based upon user selection, to enable full or partial activation of the device. A user is able to program specific events, such as TV shows, to be activated at specific times with controlled access by secondary access codes.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2003Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: World Wide Innovations, LLCInventor: Darren Kady

Patent number: 7394346Abstract: A sensor panel having a matrix of independently decoded sensors, arranged in a two-dimensional pattern allows a consumer identification unit (CIDU) to detect a user-specific gesture made with a gesturing instrument such as an RF ID device. The CIDU monitors on a timed basis which of the sensors in the panel are receiving a signal from an RF ID device which has entered the proximity of one or more of the sensors. The user moves the sensor in a two-dimensional pattern to perform a “gesture signature” in free space near the panel, and the CIDU records the sequence of receiving sensors. This sequence can then be quickly and efficiently handled as a number to be looked up to identify and authenticate the user. Preferably, the user is allowed to define multiple signature gestures, each having the possibility of being associated with a transaction or authorization level.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2002Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: William Kress Bodin

Patent number: 7363398Abstract: A system for interfacing a user with an electronic device. An accessor device provides a user interface matched to the needs, abilities and intentions of the user and translates the user input commands and data into commands for the electronic device. An intelligent access port translates commands from the accessor into an input format required by the electronic device. A communication link connects the accessor device with the intelligent access port to send the translated user input commands and data from the accessor to the intelligent access port. The accessor device contains an intelligent access module and an interactive display. The intelligent access module contains a driver device for routing message packets, an interaction processor for processing incoming message packets and generating a message packet for the electronic device, and a communications channel. Communications between system components take place over a universal serial bus or over a wireless fidelity or ZigBee device.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2003Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventor: Neil G. Patent number: 7339456Abstract: An electromechanical locking apparatus, which is integral with a firearm, selectively disables the firearm. The electromechanical locking apparatus comprises an electrically driven input device personalized to an authorized user such as a keypad. The electrically driven input device connects a battery to a motor, which rotates a gear train. The gear train drives a pin into one of two notches or apertures in a trigger of the firearm so as to prevent rotation of the trigger whereby the firearm is rendered inoperable irrespective of whether the trigger is in its cocked or uncocked position.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1999Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Inventors: Jonathan D. Patent number: 7337469Abstract: An unlock system does not use a key that might be copied so that only a correct person can unlock a door and security is enhanced. Unlock records of door-lock are stored in a limited memory capacity in volume. Fingerprint data input to a fingerprint input section 21 disposed outside a door 11 provided on a doorway 10 is detected, and the detected fingerprint data is verified against previously registered fingerprint data. If it was confirmed that the detected fingerprint data coincided with the registered fingerprint data, an unlock signal is output to unlock the door-lock, and a setting time or start-using time is stored in a storing section having a clock function.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2001Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignees: Alpha Corporation, Glory Ltd.Inventors: Shunichi Osada, Haruhisa Nakajima

Patent number: 7327215Abstract: A keypad assembly for use on a vehicular keyless entry system comprises a selectively concealable keypad coupled to a processor and accessible from the exterior of the vehicle and through which an access code may be manually entered. A mirror assembly is mounted on an exterior surface of the vehicle and includes a base fixedly coupled to the exterior surface and a mirror compartment rotatably coupled to the base and capable of being rotated between an extended, operational position and a folded, retracted position. The keypad is mounted on the base so as to be visible and accessible when the mirror compartment is in its folded retracted position and hidden and inaccessible when the mirror compartment is in it's extended, operational position.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2004Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Clark E. Patent number: 7227445Abstract: A system and method for wireless activation of a target. A communication device transmits an ID associated with the target to a network operations center. The network operations center provides an activation signal to the communication device. The communication device wirelessly transmits an acoustic activation signal to a nearby activation device. The activation device is positioned proximate the target and causes a change in at least one physical property of the target. The target may be an optical media containing an electrochromic material with optical properties that change on application of an electric signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2003Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignee: Kestrel Wireless, Inc.Inventor: Paul Atkinson
