Manual Code Input Patents (Class 340/5.51)
  • Patent number: 8049602
Abstract: The present invention describes a car anti-theft system. Specifically, the present invention has an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) patterned onto a visible surface of a vehicle. Vehicle theft is recognized when an unauthorized driver fails to enter a predetermined code, resulting in lighting of OLED. Lighted OLED may be seen by passers-by who may then alert police that a car is in the process of being stolen. Alternatively and additionally, OLED's may be integrated into primary car alarm systems so as to add an additional, visual, layer of car protection.

Abstract: A directional, wireless, user-authenticating electronic token is disclosed. The token is embedded as an integrated system (generally, within a protective electronic enclosure). Typically the present invention includes a fingerprint sensor, a processor, a power source, a token transceiver and antenna, and orientation indicia. The antenna propagates highly directional signals. This allows users to orient (i.e., “aim”) token signals toward intended transceivers (POS machines, doors, computers, etc.), while reducing risks of transacting with “unintended” transceivers outside the aimed beam. The present invention offers an improved design for electronic wireless hardware tokens: providing versatile, secure, directional, wireless, user-authenticating devices (e.g., advanced ID cards, smartcards, hybrid cards, dongles, etc.). Such devices reduce risk of unintended emissions (i.e., signals radiating in the direction of unintended transceivers).

Abstract: The present invention is a time-based vehicle immobilizer useful for lenders. The Immobilizer has a base unit attached to the starter circuit of a vehicle and a wireless handheld unit. The base unit disables the vehicle starter circuit unless it receives a signal indicating a period of time from the handled unit. The handheld unit will only generate a signal if an activation code entered into a keypad on the unit corresponds to a reference code stored in the unit's memory. Each preloaded reference code represents a period of time and is deleted after matching with an activation code. When no amount of time remains on the base unit, the vehicle is immobilized at the next ignition attempt.

Abstract: A method and device for maintenance of an elevator installation or an escalator installation communicates the presence of a maintenance technician at the elevator or escalator installation to a remote service center. The service center is thus informed about that the maintenance technician has to maintain or is maintaining or has maintained a specific installation and is in a position of checking the quality of this maintenance. The maintenance operations are recorded as a maintenance record and communicated to the service center. For example, the maintenance record contains details about which maintenance technician on which day of the year and for how long has undertaken which maintenance operations on a specific elevator or escalator installation. The quality of a thus detected maintenance can then be compared with a quality standard. In addition, the maintenance operations performed are thus uniquely detected and can be evaluated.

  • Patent number: 7394346
Abstract: A sensor panel having a matrix of independently decoded sensors, arranged in a two-dimensional pattern allows a consumer identification unit (CIDU) to detect a user-specific gesture made with a gesturing instrument such as an RF ID device. The CIDU monitors on a timed basis which of the sensors in the panel are receiving a signal from an RF ID device which has entered the proximity of one or more of the sensors. The user moves the sensor in a two-dimensional pattern to perform a “gesture signature” in free space near the panel, and the CIDU records the sequence of receiving sensors. This sequence can then be quickly and efficiently handled as a number to be looked up to identify and authenticate the user. Preferably, the user is allowed to define multiple signature gestures, each having the possibility of being associated with a transaction or authorization level.

An accessor device provides a user interface matched to the needs, abilities and intentions of the user and translates the user input commands and data into commands for the electronic device. An intelligent access port translates commands from the accessor into an input format required by the electronic device. A communication link connects the accessor device with the intelligent access port to send the translated user input commands and data from the accessor to the intelligent access port. The accessor device contains an intelligent access module and an interactive display. The intelligent access module contains a driver device for routing message packets, an interaction processor for processing incoming message packets and generating a message packet for the electronic device, and a communications channel.
