  • Patent number: 8520914
Abstract: The present invention relates to authentication information using bio information such as fingerprints. Identification accuracy whether a living body or a forgery (non living body) is improved to prevent an authentication error. The present invention particularly relates to an authentication apparatus (a fingerprint authentication apparatus), an authentication method, an authentication program and a recording medium. By detecting characteristics not shown in a living body that a forgery (non-living body) has, the characteristic such as uniform reducing feature by the passage of time of a gummy finger (a false finger) made like a bio finger, whether a living body or a forgery is determined, a determination error of a living body by a forgery is prevented, and authentication accuracy of a living body is enhanced.

Abstract: A display control unit performs a control of displaying first image information on a display unit. An electric-power supply unit converts thermal energy generated from a body temperature of a user into electric power upon the user contacting the electric-power supply unit, and supplies the electric power to the display control unit. A determination unit determines whether the user is in contact with the electric-power supply unit. When it is determined that the user is not in contact with the electric-power supply unit, the display control unit performs a control of rewriting the first image information displayed on the display unit with second image information.

  • Patent number: 8508338
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for defeating replay attacks against biometric authentication systems by randomly prompting the subject to adjust a part of their body in some measurable way. The timing of these adjustments would be used to verify that the biometric input is coming from a live subject and not a recording. One embodiment of the design would include a commodity camera-equipped mobile device (130) connected to an authentication server (110) via the Internet (120). In this embodiment an encrypted video stream of the subject—for example his or her hand (140a)—would be established from the mobile device to the authentication server. The authentication server would generate a unique series of time delays, at which intervals a prompt—for example to extend or retract a specific finger—would be relayed from the server to the mobile device and subsequently the subject.

  • Patent number: 8469134
Abstract: When a driver of a vehicle brings his/her detection part close to a case, a sensor detects a pulse of the driver at the detection part with an optical method, and takes an image of the detection part. An individual certification means determines whether the driver of the vehicle is an authorized person or not based on the image of the detection part taken by the sensor. An alcohol concentration determiner calculates an index value of a blood alcohol concentration of the driver based on the pulse detected at the detection part by the sensor, and determines whether the index value exceeds a criterial value of a drinking assessment. When it is determined that the driver of the vehicle is an authorized person and the index value does not exceed the criterial value of the drinking assessment, a permission means permits the driver to start an engine of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8421625
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a digital signature from an article. A coherent light source directs a beam to illuminate the article and a detector arrangement collects data points from light scattered from many different parts of the article to collect a large number of independent data points, typically 500 or more. By collecting a large number of independent signal contributions specific to many different parts of the article, a digital signature can be computed that is unique to the area of the article that has been scanned. This measurement can be repeated whenever required to test authenticity of the article. Using this method, it has been discovered that it is essentially pointless to go to the effort and expense of making specially prepared tokens, since unique characteristics are measurable a in a straightforward manner from a wide variety of every day articles.

Abstract: An example display unit for facilitating operation of equipment includes a housing, an electronic display supported by the housing, and an electronic circuit located within the housing. The display unit may include one or more data receivers, such as a wireless receiver and/or an electrical interface. A biometric scanner, including a biometric sensor and proving an authorization signal when an authorized biometric input is detected by the biometric sensor, may be configured to electrically (and optionally mechanically) interconnect to the display unit. The example display unit receives an authorization status for operation of the equipment from the biometric scanner, and displays the authorization status and operational parameters relating to equipment use on the electronic display.

Abstract: Mobile devices transmit biometric data with a call initiation request to enable caller recognition within a contacts database so that caller information can be displayed even if the incoming telephone number is not recognized. A mobile device used to place a call gathers biometric data, such as a fingerprint scan. To protect user identity information the biometric data may be distorted or otherwise modified. The caller biometric data may be communicated as part of a call initiation process. The called mobile device may include a contacts database which includes within the data records stored biometric data associated with contacts. The called mobile device compares received biometric data to biometric data stored within the contacts database to determine if there is a match. If a match or partial match is determined, the contact record associated with that matching biometric data can be accessed and the associated contact information displayed.

Abstract: A privacy-oriented, personally-controlled biometric timekeeping apparatus, method, and system are disclosed. A conventional biometric time clock enrolls users at a centralized device. In my invention, biometric data never leaves the user's personal device that is carried by each employee. Upon hiring, workers are assigned hand-held, portable, mobile biometric devices to carry on their person. In daily use, the user performs biometric self-authentication, after which the personally-carried handheld apparatus sends a “successful biometric authentication” signal to the timekeeping device which is usually a centrally-located timekeeping system. The device is mobile, so workers can biometrically “punch-in” or “punch-out” via personal laptop to the timekeeping system; individually access timekeeping systems installed at worksites; or communicate from vehicles to the timekeeping system. Improved privacy is facilitated, despite the use of biometrics.

Abstract: A biodetector permits formation of an image of the inner face of the hand or of a finger of a user when the hand or the finger (101) is placed in front of an image-forming device (11), at a defined height (F). The height is adapted such that the biodetection image is sufficiently clear and is indicated to the user by means of a sign (40) projected onto the outer face of the hand or of the finger. Such a biodetector does not require the hand or finger to be applied to a support surface, and it permits intuitive and rapid use of the biodetector.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for minimizing power consumption of a sensor unit that is capable of detecting an object. Main circuitry operates the sensor unit in a high power mode of operation when the sensor unit detects an object. Low power control circuitry operates the sensor unit in a low power mode of operation when the sensor unit does not detect an object within a pre-determined period of time. The low power control circuitry also comprises a counter to periodically determine when to restore the sensor unit to a high power mode of operation. One advantageous embodiment of the sensor unit is a fingerprint sensor unit for detecting a finger to obtain fingerprint information.
