Abstract: The disclosed threat response system(s) and method(s) provide a mean to secure an area around the clock. The system includes a plurality of microphones strategically located at various locations of the protected area, a plurality of acoustic beacons to provide navigational support one or more autonomous non-flying (ANF) drones, and a central controller. In one example each of the one or more ANF drones are equipped with an acoustic positioning system that uses beacon signals (e.g., mechanical waves) transmitted by the plurality of acoustic beacons to determine its position relative to the plurality of acoustic beacons. Once an acoustic event is detected, it is analyzed to determine whether there is a threat. When the threat is confirmed, the central controller dispatches one or more of the ANF drones to investigate and/or to engage the target.

  • Patent number: 11608250
Abstract: A method and a device for monitoring an elevator car door acquire one or more distances based on light emitted toward the car door by a distance measuring device and reflected at the car door as a function of a current closed state of the car door. Information about the current closed state of the car door is derived solely by comparing the acquired distance with a previously acquired reference distance, and a signal which represents the information can be fed to a remotely arranged control center. The monitoring device can be installed as a retrofit component that is capable of working autonomously in existing elevator systems, does not need to receive any data from a controller of the car door or the elevator system and only requires a relatively simple data processing device that only needs to carry out a comparison of detected distance values with reference values.

Abstract: A technique for operating a Radio Frequency Identification, RFID, reader with motion detection includes detecting a motion in proximity to the RFID reader, and triggering the RFID reader to read any tags in proximity to the RFID reader in response to detecting a motion in proximity to the RFID reader. Detecting a motion can also generate a change in digital signage, or communicate information about read tags to a local area network. Operating this system only when motion is detected saves battery life.

Abstract: Security systems may include sensing, networked communications, stealth, alarms, and countermeasures, any or all of which may adapt to threats. These systems may also include armor and barriers of concrete and/or steel. They can adapt to severity of threats, weather, and/or other situational aspects. They can anticipate at least some threats in order to obtain early warning and react more quickly to those threats. They can adapt by altering their configurations, including alterations in communication networking structures and methods, and changes in data-storage and processing duties at processing nodes. Defensive and/or offensive countermeasures can be employed to deter, confuse, trap, and/or disable terrorists. The systems are capable of self-maintenance, self-healing, and self-restoration as threats subside. The systems can include subsystems capable of autonomous operation.

  • Patent number: 8665090
Abstract: A multi-modal load control system includes a sensor that operates as an occupancy sensor in a first mode of operation and operates as a vacancy sensor in a second mode of operation. The load control system comprises a load control circuit adapted to be coupled in series electrical connection between an AC power source and an electrical load for controlling the amount of power delivered to the load in response to sensor, which is operable to detect occupancy or vacancy conditions in a space in which the sensor is located. In the first mode of operation, the load control circuit turns the load on when the sensor detects the occupancy condition and turns the load off when the sensor detects the vacancy condition. In the second mode of operation, the load control circuit turns the load off when the sensor detects the vacancy condition and does not turn the load on when the sensor detects the occupancy condition.

  • Patent number: 8624735
Abstract: An alarm system for indicating the specific location of an intrusion into an enclosed space, as well as a method for installing the alarm system, are disclosed. The intrusion causes illumination of an indicator light outside the enclosed space and within the outer perimeter zone of the enclosed space, thereby indicating the specific location of the intrusion. At least one interior sensor located within the enclosed space generates a specific intrusion location signal in response to movement therein. A control system responsive to the specific intrusion location signal causes the indicator light to emit light that is visible from outside the outer perimeter zone of the enclosed space. The emitted light can indicate the specific location of an intrusion by directing light towards the specific intrusion location, and/or by surrounding the specific intrusion location, and/or by activating a light display that produces readable output of the specific intrusion location.

  • Patent number: 8614744
Abstract: A solution for monitoring an area includes using a region schema for the area. The region schema can include a set of prototypical tracks, each of which includes a start location, an end location, and a trajectory. The trajectory comprises an expected path an object will travel between the start location and the end location and can include variation information that defines an amount that an object can vary from the trajectory. The region schema can be generated by obtaining training object tracking data for the area for an initialization time period and evaluating the object tracking data to identify the set of prototypical tracks. While monitoring the area, monitored object tracking data is obtained for a monitored object in the area, and abnormal behavior of the monitored object is identified when the monitored object tracking data for the monitored object does not follow at least one of the set of prototypical tracks in the region schema.

Abstract: An alarm system for indicating the time that has elapsed since intrusion into an enclosed space, as well as a method for installing the alarm system, are disclosed. The alarm system detects an intrusion into the enclosed space, the intrusion thereby causing an indicator light outside the enclosed space to illuminate, thereby indicating time elapsed since intrusion. At least one interior sensor is located within the enclosed space and configured to generate an intrusion time signal in response to movement therein. The indicator light is located within an outer perimeter zone of the enclosed space, and upon receiving an intrusion time signal, the indicator light emits light visible from outside the outer perimeter zone of the enclosed space. The light can indicate time elapsed via a property of the light itself, such as wavelength, intensity and/or focus, and/or via a light display producing readable output of time elapsed, for example.
