  • Patent number: 9442192
Abstract: A system (200) and method (400) for determining the location of an object is provided. A plurality of radio transceivers (101,201,203,205) are disposed about a location of interest (221). One or more tags (102) are coupled to an object. The radio transceivers (101,201,203,205) transmit radio frequency signals (115,215,217,219) to the tag (102), which backscatters a return signal (116,216,218,220) having a unique identifier modulated therein due to a switch (108) switching between two or more loads (110,112) in accordance with a unique identification code (118). A location determination module (107) then determines the location of the tag (102) by using a course location estimate (502), a fine location estimate (503), or combinations thereof. A object modeling module (109) can create multidimensional models using the locations of the tags (102).

In set up phase, the viewpoint of the camera is directed at a risk area associated with patient falls, beds, chairs, wheelchairs, etc. A risk area is defined graphically in the viewport. The patient fall prediction system generates a plurality of concurrent motion detection zones that are situated proximate to the graphic markings of the risk areas. These motion detection zones are monitored for changes between video image frames that indicate a movement. The pattern of detections is recorded and compared to a fall movement detection signature. One fall movement detection signature is a sequential detection order from the motion detection zone closest to the risk area in the frames associated with patient falls, to the motion detection zone farthest away from the risk area.

Abstract: A communication apparatus and method to provide timed monitoring and reminder function using a telephone switch to make calls to a subscriber with the option to repeat each call one or more times to allow the subscriber to answer any one of the calls to signal activity. If the subscriber is not responding to any one of the calls, the apparatus will communicate to someone related to the subscriber such as a friend or a member of the family to report the subscriber's inactivity. Alternatively, the subscriber can signal activity before the call occurs to avoid the call. Allowing a subscriber multiple opportunities to respond to a call and to take action proactively is an improvement over existing methods to provide telephone reassurance.

  • Patent number: 9117092
Abstract: Techniques for securing a client. Two or more varieties of location information for a client may be received. The present location of the client is determined using the two or more varieties of location information. A determination is made as to whether any of the varieties of location information were received during an immediately preceding bounded interval of time having a predefined length. A weight associated with each variety of location information that was received during the immediately preceding bounded interval of time is determined. The present location of the client is calculated using a weighted arithmetic mean for the varieties of location information that were received during the immediately preceding bounded interval of time.

Abstract: A patient monitoring system adapted for use with a bathroom. The system includes a motion detection unit including a motion detection sensor and a first housing. The system also includes an alarm unit having an alarm device and a second housing. Control circuitry operably couples the motion detection sensor with the alarm device. The control circuitry is configured to activate the alarm device when the motion detection sensor detects motion. The system also includes a support structure removably mounted on the bathroom door wherein the support structure is adapted to support the first housing proximate the interior surface of the door and support the second housing proximate the exterior surface of the door. The motion detection sensor is positioned so that when a fall-risk patient begins to rise from the toilet, the alarm device will alert a caregiver outside the bathroom who may then assist the patient.

  • Patent number: 9092961
Abstract: A surveillance system monitors a monitored vessel containing hidden resources. When activity is determined as occurring within a vicinity of the monitored vessel, an alert is issued to monitoring personnel. Personnel can then obtain a current image of the hidden resource within the monitored vessel. Upon receiving the current image of the hidden resource, a previous image of the hidden resource is retrieved and discrepancies between the current image and the previous image are determined. Responsive to determining that discrepancies between the current image and the previous image exist, an alarm is issued to personnel to further investigate the discrepancy.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for detecting (CAPT) the presence of an object, that comprises at least one detection member (EA, EB) to which is associated a physical value that varies based on the environment in which said detection member (EA, EB) is located. The invention is characterised in that the physical value provides a variable reference level corresponding to the absence of an object and in that it further comprises a saving device (LOG IC) for saving, upon the emission of a low-frequency signal, a value of the reference level measured before the emission of said low-frequency signal.
