Abstract: A detection and alarm system comprises a piezoelectric film sensor and associated circuitry. The sensor detects acoustic emission signals from metallic objects under stress upon which it is affixed. The associated circuitry receives electronic signals from the sensor, creates and evaluates a sensor output value including rate ratio and frequency content of such signals within preset time limits. This data allows the detection of impending failure, an alarm condition, of the metallic object by identifying significant changes in the rate of emission of such sensor signals. An alarm condition may then trigger an alarm signal to warn of such impending failure.

  • Patent number: 7450027
Abstract: A method and system for implementing a serial enclosure management interface is disclosed. In one embodiment, the LED indicators for a storage device in an external enclosure are managed. First, a set of bit patterns for driving the LED indicators is repeatedly placed on a serial bus that is connected to an external enclosure for transmission by varying the states of the serial bus. This process continues until a change to this set of bit patterns is detected. In one embodiment, the change is captured in a memory mapped register, which is typically accessible by a storage device controller. The detected change prompts accesses to a virtualized register, which generally resides in system memory, to generate a different set of bit patterns to place on the serial bus.

Abstract: A tracking device may be used to detect a position or movement of an object. The tracking device may include a housing that supports an emitter. The emitter may transmit a first signal. A measurement device within the housing may measure rotational movement of an object. Circuitry may receive a second signal in response to the first signal. The circuitry may reset an angle value to a predetermined value based on the second signal. The angle value may be determined by a measurement of the rotational movement of the object.

Abstract: A moving, pulsed-light-source light sculpture display with communication between a stationary portion, i.e. the knobs and buttons and their corresponding electronics, and rotating and illuminated PCBs. An optical data link is implemented with an IR LED in the stationary base unit and an IR receiver on the rotating PCB. A user interface allows the user to easily draw in the 3D volume of the display in real time. The portion of the user interface used to create sculptures in the 3D volume of voxels includes multiple physical elements including knobs, pushbuttons, and a multi-position slide switch. Another element of the user interface is a movable blinking cursor in the display volume that indicates the current voxel being manipulated. User interface controls also provide functions for data in memory for saving/recalling user sculptures and animation. Animations are facilitated in which 3D volumes of the volumetric display move in synchronization.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an assembly and method for use of an electronic display, and more particularly, to an electronic display device including a proximity sensor and a switch for a handicap or a small person both connected to a tilting mechanism. The display in a first attract orientation shows an attract graphic to incite users toward the display. Once a user has been detected by the proximity sensor, the assembly tilts the display device toward the face of a user and the attract graphic is replaced by an access graphic operated via the touch screen. In the event a handicapped person or a short person wishes to access the display assembly, a switch is activated to rotate the display device downwards to a user sitting in a chair.

Abstract: A method and a circuit is disclosed that facilitates identifying a remote end and optionally an intermediate location of an installed cable, such as a cable for carrying data, without the need to disconnect the cable. One or more circuits may be connected across two wires along the length of a cable. Each circuit includes a power connector, a switching circuit and an indicator, such as a light emitting diode (LED), connected across the two wires included in a cable. The circuit is configured such that the indicator in each circuit connected to the two wires is illuminated in responsive to a nominal DC voltage applied to the power connector in any circuits connected across the two wires without disrupting any data being carried thereby. In one embodiment of the invention, the circuit is directly into a cable connector. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, the circuit is configured to be retrofit in the field for use with existing cables.
