  • Patent number: 8649970
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for providing popular routes via a global positioning satellite (GPS) system. A GPS device receives a route request from a user. The GPS device then determines a current location of the GPS device and connects to a network server. In response to connecting to the network server, the GPS device transmits a route selection request to the network server. In response, the GPS device receives a route selection list from the network server where the route selection list contains a plurality of routes previously taken by other drivers. Each route is assigned a popularity rating. The GPS device displays one or more of the routes of the route selection list, and requests that a user select a route. After the user selects a route the GPS device displays the selected route as an overlay on a map display.

Abstract: An electronic device and method for managing bus services includes a determination of a target bus route according to destination information input by a passenger, and a generation of riding information. A bus of the target bus route approaching a current bus stop where the passenger is located is determined to be a target bus. The riding information is sent to the target bus, and carrying information is received from the target bus. If the target bus has available passenger capacity to carry the passenger, a request message is sent to the target bus, to request a driver of the target bus to stop at the current bus stop. A notification is outputted to notify the passenger that the target bus is approaching the current bus stop.

  • Patent number: 7991544
Abstract: A method and system are provided for selecting and presenting a route to a user. An exemplary embodiment includes storing a plurality of associations, each association between a route taken by a user and user characteristics. Received from a particular user is a request for at least one recommended route to a destination point. A query is formulated based on user specified parameters, including an origination point, the destination point, and characteristics of other users, to obtain routes taken by other users. A plurality of routes taken by other users having at least some of the characteristics of other users and related to at least one of the origination point and the destination point is retrieved from the stored plurality of associations. At least one recommended route is recommended to the particular user based on at least one of the retrieved routes that most closely matches the user specified parameters.

  • Patent number: 7945383
Abstract: A navigation system is able to find an optimum route to a destination even when a large non-digitized area exists between a starting point to the destination. The navigation system produces processing points based on a particular shape and size of the large non-digitized area and determines whether such processing points should be used for route search operations. When it is determined that the route search operation is effective, the navigation system performs A* algorithm search operations with respect to the start point, processing points and the destination and detects an optimum route to detour the large non-digitized area.

  • Patent number: 7916142
Abstract: An embodiment relates generally to a method of generating user-specified information. The method includes receiving a plurality of points selected on a map to form a first continuous line having one or more vertices. The method also includes generating a closed polygon having a plurality of edges, where at least one edge forms a second continuous line substantially parallel to and spaced apart at a distance from the first continuous line. The method also includes determining a plurality of coordinate pairs each associated with a point on the plurality of edges of the closed polygon and retrieving user specified information for an area enclosed by the plurality of coordinate pairs.

  • Patent number: 7912632
Abstract: A navigation system stores setting record information related to places designated as destination or reached place. The setting record information includes setting frequencies with which corresponding places were designated. A control unit searches a map database for places meeting a keyword inputted by a user and causes a display unit to present the places in the descending order of their corresponding setting frequencies in the stored setting record information. The user then selects as a destination a certain place from the presented places. The control unit stores the selected certain place to update the setting record information. Thus, the names of places meeting the keyword inputted are directly displayed in the descending order of the setting frequency with which they have been designated in the past. Therefore, the user need not perform an operation to hierarchically select a desired place by region or facility name.

  • Patent number: 7890250
Abstract: A navigation system (20) includes a transceiver unit (210), a display unit (250), an input unit (260) and an ECU (230). The transceiver unit (210) transmits a signal for demanding a detection of a navigation path to a path detecting server (10) and then receives path data which represent the navigation path from the path detecting server (10). The display unit (250) outputs the navigation path or a revised navigation path. The ECU (230) conveys data on a departure point and a destination from the input unit (260) to the transceiver unit (210) and transfers the path data from the transceiver unit (210) to the display unit (250). Further, the ECU (270) precalculates deviation-expected paths in the course of driving along the navigation path and selects the revised navigation path among the precalculated deviation-expected paths in case a present position of a mobile object deviates from the navigation path to thereby provide the revised navigation path to the display unit (250).

  • Patent number: 7835860
Abstract: A control information output device assumes not only a destination but also a travel route based on accumulated travel route information. Moreover, after a travel is started, if it is found that an assumed travel route is incorrect, assumption of the destination and assumption of the travel route are performed again. Therefore, accuracy of the control information outputted to a driving force control unit is high, and accordingly, it is possible for the driving force control unit to perform control of charging/discharging with an improved energy utilization factor.
