  • Patent number: 10325573
Abstract: To manage dynamic adjustment of the refresh rate of a computer display, the operating system defines at least two playback modes: one or more custom modes that can be selected by applications, and a standard mode which is a default setting for the system that can be expected by applications. The operating system provides an application programming interface that enables an application to request using a custom mode. If approved to use the custom mode, then the application presents frames for display based on the custom mode. The operating system stores timing data for each buffered frame indicating how to play the frame in both standard mode and the custom mode. If a transition back to the standard mode occurs, the operating system uses the timing data to properly present frames of video until the application stops generating frames of video in the custom mode.

  • Patent number: 10319298
Abstract: In a display element such as an organic EL element, deterioration progresses due to light emission, and emission luminance is lowered even if the same voltage is applied to the display element. Therefore, use over time causes variations in luminance of each pixel, thereby a so-called “image burn-in” phenomenon occurs. Given this factor, the invention provides a display device which can reduce the difference in deterioration of a display element in each pixel and suppress variations in light emission of a display element in a pixel. It is prevented that only a specific pixel has a long accumulated lighting time. For that purpose, a gray scale of a display pattern is changed to prevent the difference in deterioration of display element in pixels from increasing. Alternatively, a specific display pattern is prevented from being fixedly displayed in a specific region.

Abstract: A system and method for preventing image retention in an electronic display. A time threshold (TT) and a pixel threshold (PT) may be defined. The system preferably performs a checksum calculation of all pixel data within an active image area of the electronic display for an interval of time until reaching TT. The system may then compare the checksum calculation for each interval of time to determine if the change in pixel data is less than PT. Preferably, the system will perform an image retention prevention method for the active image area if the change in pixel data is less than PT. Generally, this is performed by transmitting alternate pixel data to the electronic display.

  • Patent number: 10311782
Abstract: An organic light-emitting diode display may contain an array of display pixels. Each display pixel may have a respective organic light-emitting diode that is controlled by a drive transistor. At low temperatures, it may be necessary to increase the amount of current through an organic light-emitting diode to achieve a desired luminance level. In order to increase the current through the light-emitting diode, the ground voltage level may be lowered. However, this may lead to thin-film transistors within the pixel leaking, which may result in undesirable display artifacts such as bright dots being displayed in a dark image. In order to prevent leakage in the transistors, the transistors may be coupled to separate reference voltage supplies or separate control lines. Additionally, the transistors may be positioned to minimize leakage even at low ground voltage levels.

Abstract: The present invention reliably and sufficiently corrects a voltage variation in data signal lines in a display device resulting when sampling analog video signals, while suppressing increase in layout area. In a data signal line drive circuit of an active matrix liquid crystal display device, a video signal Svi is sampled by an Nch transistor (SWk) which has a parasitic capacitance (Cgd) that causes a voltage drop in a data signal line SL3(i?1)+k (i=1 through n; k=1, 2, 3). To correct this, an inversion delayer (342) makes logical inversion of the transistor (SWk)'s control signal Sck and delays the inverted signal for a predetermined time to generate an inversion delayed signal Srdk, and applies this inversion delayed signal Srd to the data signal line 3(i?1)+k via a correction capacitance element (Cc). The inversion delayer (342) makes the inversion delayed signal Srdk start its change from an L level voltage to a H level voltage after the Nch transistor (SWk) has assumed an OFF state.
