Abstract: Display functions in an electronic device may comprise combining runtime color adjustments with brightness adjustments triggered by ambient light detection. Light sensors may be utilized to detect ambient lighting conditions, which may cause adjustment of brightness level applicable to a display (or screen) of the electronic device. The adjustment of brightness level may then be combined with adjustment of contrast level that may also be applicable to display functions. In this regard, a particular contrast level may be selected based on the detected ambient lighting conditions—e.g., by mapping various contrast levels to preconfigured ambient lighting levels. The contrast adjustment may comprise adjusting colors and/or sharpness. Using contrast adjustments, in conjunction with the brightness adjustments, may allow for achieving the same levels of readability with less brightness, and/or for increased readability with the same brightness.

Abstract: A method of driving a light source includes converting a reference luminance value of the light source to a first just noticeable difference (JND) value. The JND value represents a minimum noticeable difference between two stimuli. A target luminance value lower than the reference luminance value is determined using the first JND value. A first driving signal applied to the light source is generated using the target luminance value so that a user may not notice a luminance change when a luminance value of a light source is decreased in order to decrease power consumption of a display apparatus.

Abstract: An interferometric modulator (Imod) cavity has a reflector and an induced absorber. A direct view reflective flat panel display may include an array of the modulators. Adjacent spacers of different thicknesses are fabricated on a substrate by a lift-off technique used to pattern the spacers which are deposited separately, each deposition providing a different thickness of spacer. Or a patterned photoresist may be used to allow for an etching process to selectively etch back the thickness of a spacer which was deposited in a single deposition. A full-color static graphical image may be formed of combined patterns of interferometric modulator cavities. Each cavity includes a reflector, and an induced absorber, the induced absorber including a spacer having a thickness that defines a color associated with the cavity.

Abstract: A system and method for training a learning transceiver to a movable barrier system includes a learning transceiver that is configured for being trained to the movable barrier system. To provide ease of use to consumers, a user is able to train the learning transceiver to the movable barrier system without needing to push a button on a movable barrier operator or use a pretrained transmitter. To this end, a movable barrier operator is configured to transmit a transmission signal to the learning transceiver including a rolling access code, which is used to train the learning transceiver. To maintain the security of the movable barrier system and to restrict unauthorized users from accessing the movable barrier system, the movable barrier operator waits to transmit the transmission signal, including the rolling access code, to the learning transceiver until it has received an indication that a predetermined event occurred.

  • Patent number: 8363070
Abstract: Correction data tables or look up tables (LUTs) are stored in a table memory. When an overshoot calculation section switches an active LUT, the overshoot calculation section obtains the new active LUT not out of an external memory but out of the table memory. A table managing section deletes, from the internal memory, LUTs to which the new active LUT does not switch over directly, for example non-adjacent LUTs, meanwhile the table managing section obtains a new adjacent LUT from the external memory so as to store the new adjacent LUT in the table memory. With the arrangement, it becomes possible for a drive circuit to (i) operate at the same processing speed as a drive circuit in which all tables are stored in the internal memory, and simultaneously, (ii) reduce the amount of memory.
