Publication number: 20110221778Abstract: The present invention discloses methods for lossless shearing and/or rotation of two-dimensional (2D) data, including digital images, with minute discrete angular increments, carried out only by permutations in the Fourier frequency domain, by exploiting the natural shear occurring as a result of computing a single one-dimensional discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of 2D arrays. Rotations in general, especially for oblong arrays, occur on elliptical paths. Circular rotation, by an angle of arctan(1/width), is achieved on square arrays. When each dimension is multiple of a smaller N, the rotation/shear angle can be increased to arctan(2N/width). Rotation steps can be repeated in long, animation-like series, with neither loss nor degradation of the Fourier content; so much so that tracing the steps back does restore the original data with remarkable precision.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2010Publication date: September 15, 2011Inventor: Andrew Batrac

Publication number: 20110199391Abstract: An electronic device as taught herein offers reduced on-chip memory processing of graphics data, while also offering low memory bandwidth requirements. The electronic device includes a host block with off-chip memory, a graphics processing block with on-chip memory, a display controller, and a graphics display. The off-chip memory stores a frame of graphics data. The graphics processing block processes that frame of graphics data in blocks, or “tiles,” of graphics data. For each tile, the graphics processing block fetches rendering instructions and graphics data corresponding to that tile from the off-chip memory, stores the graphics data in the on-chip memory, and renders pixel values for the tile by processing the graphics data in accordance with the rendering instructions. The graphics processing block then sends the rendered pixel values for the tile directly to the display controller and partially updates the graphics display memory with those rendered pixel values.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2010Publication date: August 18, 2011Inventors: Per-Daniel Olsson, Aleksandar Filipov, Marcus Dan Anders Lorentzon

Patent number: 7948664Abstract: A similarity calculation process section registers the largest number of votes of the image of the first document, the index representing the document, and the category of the document into a category table. For the images of the documents being successively read after the document being read first, the similarity calculation process section determines the similarity of the documents based on the result of the voting inputted from a vote process section. When the similarity is lower than a threshold value, determining that the images are not similar to the image of the document registered in the category table, the similarity calculation process section registers the indices representing the documents, the largest numbers of votes of the documents and new categories into the category table, and outputs the result of the determination (classification signal).Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2007Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Atsuhisa Morimoto, Masakazu Ohira

Patent number: 7949498Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for estimating changes in an object represented by first and second multidimensional datasets. The first dataset is a reference dataset and the second dataset is an altered dataset. Discrete data samples of the first dataset are processed to form a piecewise continuous representation thereof. An error function is computed for comparisons between discrete data samples in the second dataset and the piecewise continuous representation of the first dataset. An alteration of the second dataset relative to the first dataset that minimizes the error function is determined.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2007Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: University of Virginia Patent FoundationInventors: William F. Publication number: 20110115819Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a wireless transceiver, a display having an available display area and a memory. A processor cooperates with the wireless transceiver for downloading textual content having a plurality of words and storing the textual content in the memory. The processor also cooperating with the memory for generating successive fragments of the textual content, each fragment having at least one word. The successive fragments are searched to locate a longest fragment. A selected font in which the longest fragment can be displayed on the display area of the display is determined. Rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) is used for displaying on the display area of the display the successive fragments of the textual content in the selected font.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2009Publication date: May 19, 2011Applicant: Research In Motion LimitedInventor: Daniel Hanson

Publication number: 20110102463Abstract: A position fine tuning of an object without movement of creation points of the object is facilitated with a position tool having a graphic position tool displayed on a display. The graphic position tool may comprise a rotation tool, dragging of which causes the object to rotate accordingly around its creation axis, and/or an offset tool, either a clickable one or a draggable one, with which the object's position on an offset plane can be changed. A clickable offset tool may comprise buttons clicking of which causes the object to move a predetermined offset value(s) to a direction defined by the button.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2009Publication date: May 5, 2011Applicant: TEKLA CORPORATIONInventors: Tuomas KASKI, Vesa TUOMIARO

Patent number: 7936483Abstract: A digital photo frame for storing and displaying photos. The photo frame has a photo-sized display screen rotatably mounted on a support such that the display screen is configurable in landscape-viewing or portrait-viewing orientations by rotation of the screen. A memory stores photo image files tagged as either landscape orientation or portrait orientation and a user interface receives instructions to display photos stored in the memory. A processor is configured for receiving orientation data regarding an orientation of the display screen, retrieving only photo image files from the memory that are tagged with an orientation corresponding to the orientation of the display screen, and displaying the retrieved photo image files as photos on the display screen.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2010Date of Patent: May 3, 2011Assignee: Silverbrook Research Pty LtdInventor: Kia Silverbrook

Patent number: 7932882Abstract: A portable electronic device having a display screen capable of changing display directions is disclosed. The portable electronic device, such as a tablet personal computer, includes a tiltmeter, a display direction determining circuit and a display direction changing circuit. The tiltmeter measures a first tilt angle of a first axis of a display screen of the portable electronic device with respect to a horizontal plane, and measures a second tilt angle of a second axis of the display screen of the portable electronic device with respect to the horizontal plane. The display direction determining circuit determines whether or not a display direction of the display screen is to be changed based on the changing conditions generated by the first tilt angle and the second tilt angle as measured by the tiltmeter.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2007Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte. Publication number: 20110090249Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for automatic generation of graphic artwork to be presented by a device during playing or browsing of a media file by the device are provided. One method includes providing, via a computer or mobile device, a user interface through which a user can select a media file for which graphic artwork is to be generated and initiate automatic graphic artwork generation for the media file. The method further includes providing access to a media file graphic artwork generator via the computer or mobile device, where the media file graphic artwork generator, in response to user selection of the media file and the initiation of the media file artwork generation, automatically selects a plurality of images from at least one group of images, varies parameters of at least some of the images, and combines the images to form a graphic artwork file.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2009Publication date: April 21, 2011Inventors: Yaron Sheba, Derek Niizawa, John Anthony Becker, Erez Zvi Testiler

Publication number: 20110090256Abstract: A self-orienting display senses the characteristics of an object and automatically rotates and reformats a display image in accordance with those characteristics. In one embodiment, the object is the display device, such as a hand held device, that provides the display image. As the display device is rotated, the display image is automatically oriented to either a landscape orientation or a portrait orientation. Characteristics may be sensed by mechanical sensors, electrical sensors, optical sensors, acoustic sensors, gyroscopic sensors, or a combination thereof. Sensors may be positioned on the display device, a person, or a combination thereof. The display images may include graphic display images, textual display images, videos display images, and functional control buttons (e.g., functional displayed representations of control buttons such as play, rewind, stop, scroll).
