Abstract: A method for driving display panel and a driving device are disclosed. A transition period is inserted between displaying two neighboring frames, pixels in the nth row to the Nth row of the display panel are switched on simultaneously in the transition period, and a voltage with the highest grayscale is applied to the pixels which are switched on. This is equivalent to turning the grayscale of pixels in the nth row to the Nth row into the highest grayscale after displaying a frame and before displaying a next frame. This can improve the response time of pixels in the nth row to the Nth row during displaying the next frame, and thus can increase the display quality of the display panel.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with an ambient light sensor, a display that displays image content, and control circuitry. The control circuitry may adjust a peak allowable brightness of the display based on an ambient light brightness and based on the image content being displayed. For example, the control circuitry may analyze frames of display data to determine an average pixel luminance level. Low average pixel luminance levels correspond to mostly dark image content, whereas high average pixel luminance levels correspond to mostly light image content. When an electronic device is outdoors and displaying mostly dark images with low average pixel luminance levels, the control circuitry may take advantage of the display's maximum achievable brightness to improve readability. When an electronic device is outdoors and displaying mostly light images with high average pixel luminance levels, the control circuitry may scale the maximum allowable brightness down to reduce power consumption.

Abstract: A backplane operative to drive an array of emissive pixel elements is disclosed. Each pixel element comprises a memory cell operative to modulate a plurality of current mirror drive elements configured to drive one emissive element, wherein a plurality of current mirror pixel drive elements may be individually enabled by external control signals. The width W of the reference current FET of a first selectable current mirror circuit will differ from the width W of the reference current FET of a second selectable current mirror circuit. The ratio of the width W of the current source FET to the width W of the reference current FET in a first selectable current mirror pixel drive element is equal to the ratio of the width W of the current source FET to the width W of the reference current FET in a second selectable current mirror pixel drive element.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing system may receive a target color and a propagated error for a pixel location. The system may determine an error-modified target color for the pixel location based on the received target color and the propagated error. The system may identify, based on a location of the error-modified target color in a three-dimensional color space, a subset of pre-determined colors in the three-dimensional color space. The error-modified target color may correspond to a weighted combination of the subset of pre-determined colors. The system may determine a pixel color for the pixel location based on the subset of pre-determined colors and respective weights associated with the subset of pre-determined colors. The system may determine, based on the pixel color, driving signals for light-emitting elements associated with the pixel location. The system may output the driving signals to control the light-emitting elements associated with the pixel location.
