Abstract: Video and corresponding metadata is accessed. Events of interest within the video are identified based on the corresponding metadata, and best scenes are identified based on the identified events of interest. In one example, best scenes are identified based on the motion values associated with frames or portions of a frame of a video. Motion values are determined for each frame and portions of the video including frames with the most motion are identified as best scenes. Best scenes may also be identified based on the motion profile of a video. The motion profile of a video is a measure of global or local motion within frames throughout the video. For example, best scenes are identified from portion of the video including steady global motion. A video summary can be generated including one or more of the identified best scenes.

  • Patent number: 8994763
Abstract: In a display device in which a shape of a parallax barrier is changed depending on the relative positional relation to the viewer, the occurrence of crosstalk is suppressed. Images are displayed in a part of a plurality of sub-pixels included in each pixel, and images are not displayed in the other sub-pixels. That is, a display area in the pixel is reduced. Thus, the occurrence of crosstalk can be suppressed. Further, sub-pixels have a square shape or a substantially square shape. Thus, even when sub-pixels which display images are selected depending on the relative positional relation to the viewer, the shape of the display area in the pixel does not change greatly. Therefore, even in the case where the positional relationship is changed (in the case where the arranged parallax barrier is changed), the occurrence of crosstalk can be suppressed without respect to the positional relationship.

The image processing apparatus determines second interpolation coefficients from said value of its reference pixel position and a predetermined function, and selects, according to the decision result, either the second interpolation coefficients or third interpolation coefficients for use as the first interpolation coefficients.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display system including a signal processing device uses interpolation to generate an intermediate image frame using previous image frame data and present image frame data. The system converts data of the intermediate image frame into transposed image data that is to be used to drive a liquid crystal display panel and display a corresponding image. The transposed image data and the present image data are subjected to a prespecified DCC process (dynamic capacitance compensation process) to thereby generate respective first and second compensation image data. Since the first compensation image data is generated based on the transposed image data and the transposition is configured to prevent over-compensation by the DCC process, over-compensation by the dynamic capacitance compensation process can be reduced or prevented.

Abstract: A panel adjustment method is executed on a host to adjust settings of a panel connected to the host through a serial bus. The method determines whether the panel is supported by the host. When the panel is supported by the host, the settings of the panel is read from a database of the host to accordingly set the panel. It is further determined whether the panel is correctly set or not. When the panel is correctly set, it is further determined whether the panel is of a frame buffer mode or not. When the panel is of a frame buffer mode, it is determined whether a header file generation is required or not. When the header file generation is required, the settings and a panel name are included in an include file. The include file is compiled to thereby generate a binary file which is loaded into the panel.

Abstract: A display manager determines if a change to one configuration parameter of the display system will affect any of the other configuration parameters of the display system, i.e., whether there is a dependency. If such a dependency exists, the display manager evaluates each of the modes of operation of the display component whose settings will be affected, to identify whether it has any modes that are compatible with the changed configuration of the display system. If so, the display manager selects the configuration mode that is closest to the current mode of the affected component and provides compatibility with the changed configuration. By means of such an approach, the user continues to have access to all components, rather than having to reconfigure and/or restart the computer system due to a change which occurs in the display configuration.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a data conversion apparatus and a learning device in which an image can be converted into a higher-quality image. A class-tap generating circuit (2) and a predictive-tap generating circuit (3) respectively generate from an SD image a class tap for classifying a specified pixel of an HD image and a predictive tap for determining the specified pixel. A classification circuit (4) classifies the specified pixel based on the class tap. A coefficient RAM (5) obtains a tap coefficient for the class of the specified pixel from tap coefficients obtained by using supervisor pixels and learner pixels and by learning the relationship between the supervisor pixels and the learner pixels for each of at least one class while applying weighting to the supervisor pixels and the learner pixels based on the activity of the predictive tap generated from the learner pixels. A predictive-computation circuit (6) determines the specified pixel by using the tap coefficient and the predictive tap.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a method for iterative seam selection in an image resizing system utilizing a seam carving technique. In one embodiment, an importance map is generated for a received source image. Seams are carved through the image from one edge to an opposite edge. An energy is computed for each seam based on pixel importance values. A distance is computed from each seam to a previously selected seam. A weighting for each seam is computed using a defined weighting function and the calculated seam distances. The weighting is applied to the energy of each seam produce a revised energy for each seam. A seam is selected based on the produced revised energy. The image is resized at a location of the selected seam. The process repeats until the image has been resized to a desired target output dimension. In such a manner, unnatural image resizing results are avoided.

The excess addressable channels are distributed symmetrically across the width dimension of the displayed image. In other embodiments the number of addressable channels is less than the number of channels of data and excess channels of data are excluded symmetrically across the width dimension of the displayed image. Further embodiments distribute excess addressable channels symmetrically across the height dimension or exclude excess channels of data symmetrically across the height dimension.
