  • Patent number: 8614655
Abstract: A pixel circuit of an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display device is provided, which supplies a small current to an organic light emitting diode during stoppage of a display operation. The pixel circuit includes a second driving transistor, which is coupled in parallel with a first driving transistor. A gate control line is used to control the second driving transistor so that a small current can flow into the organic light emitting diode during the stoppage of the display operation. The small current is supplied through the second driving transistor to the organic light emitting diode during the stoppage of the display operation. Thus, the pixel circuit of the OLED display device can reduce or prevent an electric shock applied to the organic light emitting diode at the beginning of the display operation, thereby reducing or preventing deterioration of the characteristics of the organic light emitting diode.

Abstract: Power consumption required for charging and discharging a source signal line is reduced in an active matrix EL display device. A bipolar transistor (Bi1) has a base terminal B connected to an output terminal c1 of an operational amplifier (OP1), a collector terminal C connected to a low power potential (GND), and an emitter terminal E connected to a resistor R2. A high power potential (VBH) is a potential in synchronization with a high power potential of a light emitting element. A potential of the output terminal c1 of the operational amplifier (OP1) is outputted as a buffer low power potential (VBL). The low power potential (VBL) corresponds to a potential difference between the high power potential (VBH) and a high power potential (V1). Accordingly, the low power potential (VBL) can follow the high power potential (VBH), that is a high power potential of the light emitting element.

Abstract: A display apparatus employs a pixel array section including pixel circuits forming a matrix, signal lines as columns, scan lines as rows and power-supply lines, and driving sections. The driving sections are a signal selector, a write scanner and a drive scanner. The signal selector provides an electric potential representing a gradation or a predetermined reference electric potential. The write scanner provides a control signal. The drive scanner provides a power-supply voltage changing the electric potential from high to low. The drive scanner drives adjacent power-supply lines as a group. The number of lines as a group is determined in advance. The drive scanner switches a power-supply voltage from high to low and vice versa, and applies the voltage to groups by shifting the phase from group to group. The voltage is supplied to a group at the same phase and switched the electric potential.

Abstract: A method of driving a display device capable of obtaining a luminance of constant level irrespective of temperature change is provided. A change in luminance of an EL element due to temperature change is prevented by controlling the luminance of the EL element with current instead of voltage. Specifically, a TFT for controlling the amount of current flowing into the EL element is operated in a saturation range. Then a current value IDS of the TFT is hardly changed by VDS but is determined solely by VGS. Accordingly, the amount of current flowing in the EL element is kept constant by setting VGS to such a value as to make the current value IDS constant. The luminance of the EL element is substantially in proportion to the amount of current flowing through the EL element, and a change in luminance of the EL element upon temperature change can thus be prevented.

Abstract: An organic light-emitting display device which may widen a swing range of a green sub-pixel. In the organic light-emitting display device, from among red, green, and blue sub-pixels, an overlapping area of material layers forming a thin film transistor, a boost capacitor and/or a storage capacitor of the green sub-pixel is greater than an overlapping area of the same material layers forming a thin film transistor, a boost capacitor and/or a storage capacitor of the red and blue sub-pixels. Accordingly, since a swing range of the green sub-pixel having relatively high light-emitting efficiency is widened, more accurate gradation may be displayed, a reliable product may be realized, a brightness variation of the organic light-emitting display device may be reduced, and the risk of poor image quality may be reduced.

Abstract: After a sampling transistor is turned ON at a first timing when a control signal has risen, during a sampling period from a second timing when a video signal has risen from a reference potential to a signal potential to a third timing when the control signal has fallen and is turned OFF, the sampling transistor samples and writes the signal potential in a holding capacitance, and negatively feeds back a current flowing into a drive transistor during the sampling period to the holding capacitance and applies mobility correction of the drive transistor on the written signal potential. A signal driver adjusts the second timing for the video signal supplied to respective signal lines to correct a backward shift of the third timing due to a transmission delay along a scanning line of the control signal output from the control scanner.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a pixel circuit that includes a correcting section configured to correct the input voltage sampled in the pixel capacitance in order to cancel out the dependency of the output current on the carrier mobility. In the pixel circuit, the correcting section operates depending on the control signal supplied from the scanning line to extract the output current from the drive transistor and introduce the extracted output current into a capacitance of the light-emitting device and the pixel capacitance, thereby correcting the input voltage. The pixel circuit further includes an additional capacitance added to the capacitance of the light-emitting device. In the pixel circuit, a portion of the output current extracted from the drive transistor flows into the additional capacitance to give a time margin to operation of the correcting section.
