Patent number: 8098282Abstract: The present invention advantageously provides a means by which the privacy zone on a PTZ camera can be maintained so that an object in the camera's sight is always masked or covered. An algorithm which remembers the defined privacy zones as an area in space marked by four rays touching the four corners of the marked zone and having absolute Pan, Tilt angular coordinates is presented. The privacy zone is initially defined by a rectangle on the screen with known pixel co-ordinates which are translated into angular coordinates. Then, when the camera moves and prepares to display a new screen, the privacy zone is superimposed on the object to be masked. Locating the object and displaying its privacy zone is done by translating the absolute angular coordinates of the original privacy zone into pixel coordinates. Additionally, multiple privacy zones can be displayed on one camera screen.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2007Date of Patent: January 17, 2012Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Manoj Gopinath, Arathi Mariswamy

Patent number: 8058991Abstract: A programmable interface module includes a linear power regulator to control and provide power to interfaced components on an as needed basis. The interface module is implemented in, for example, a sensor pack and multiplexed to a plurality of sensor modules. In a first mode, the linear voltage regulator provides a relatively small amount of power which allows a sensor module to output a signal responsive to detecting an environmental condition (e.g., gamma or x-ray radiation, extreme temperatures, etc.). The interface module can switch the linear voltage regulator to a second mode in which the linear voltage regulator ramps up the amount of power provided to a detecting sensor module. The sensor module can then provide a level indicative of a concentration or intensity of the environmental condition. If the level surpasses a predetermined threshold, the sensor pack can output an alert signal to security server.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2010Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: FTC-Forward Threat Control LLCInventors: Francis S. Values of one or more parameters are adjusted for the group of pixels that correspond to the face image based on the detected skin tone.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2006Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: FotoNation Vision LimitedInventors: Peter Corcoran, Igor Barcovschi, Eran Steinberg, Yury Prilutsky, Petronel Bigioi

Patent number: 7840095Abstract: An image processing apparatus is provided. The image processing apparatus converts moving image data including plural first image data of a first resolution into moving image data including plural second image data of a second resolution. The apparatus generates position alignment data between the target first image data and another first image data other than the target first image data; aligns candidate image data having the second resolution corresponding to the target first image data with the other first image data according to the position alignment data generated; updates the candidate image data to minimize a first difference between the other first image data and the candidate image data position-aligned; and executes the aligning and the updating at least one time, and using the candidate image data having the difference equal to or smaller than a reference value, as the second image data corresponding to the target first image data.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2006Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Sony CorporationInventor: Rui Yamada

Patent number: 7831063Abstract: A system and method for displaying a plurality of images. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) an event detector configured to detect at least one true target in the plurality of images using a threshold based on average and peak pixel values, (2) an image processor configured to define at least one corresponding region-of-interest for the at least one true target, (3) at least one display configured to display the plurality of images on at least one display and (4) a region-of-interest display separate from the at least one display and configured to display the at least one region-of-interest.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2007Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Inventor: Richard H. Laughlin

Patent number: 7825950Abstract: A video monitoring system is proposed, which is used to mask objects in a monitored scene that involve the privacy of an individual. Such objects include vehicle license plates or the person himself. An unmasking occurs when proof of legitimacy is entered. In a modification, a combination of a stationary camera and a moving camera also permits the masking of individual objects in the monitored scene.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2002Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventor: Frank Rottmann

Patent number: 7821531Abstract: To provide an interface apparatus capable of achieving noncontact and unrestricted arm pointing actions of multiple users in an indoor space, and facilitating the recognition of all typical arm pointing actions in standing, sitting, and lying postures and the operation of indoor units in the indoor space by the arm pointing actions. The interface apparatus includes: image processing means for picking up images of the interior of an indoor space 5 with a plurality of stereo cameras 1-1 to 1-n, and producing a distance image based on the picked-up images within the visual field on a camera-by-camera basis and the coordinate system of the indoor space 5; means for extracting the posture and arm pointing of a user 4 from the distance information from the stereo cameras 1-1 to 1-n; and means for determining, when the arm pointing has been identified, whether the arm pointing is an intended signal, from the direction pointed by the arm and the motion of the arm.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2003Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and TechnologyInventors: Ikushi Yoda, Katsuhiko Sakaue

Patent number: 7809162Abstract: A method of processing a digital image using face detection within the image achieves one or more desired image processing parameters. A group of pixels is identified that correspond to an image of a face within the digital image. Default values are determined of one or more parameters of at least some portion of the digital image. Values are adjusted of the one or more parameters within the digitally-detected image based upon an analysis of the digital image including the image of the face and the default values.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2008Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: FotoNation Vision LimitedInventors: Eran Steinberg, Yury Prilutsky, Peter Corcoran, Petronel Bigioi

Publication number: 20100225764Abstract: A detection system includes a plurality of sensors including an entry sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object entry with respect to an entry portion of an occupancy volume, and an exit sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object exit with respect to an exit portion of the occupancy volume, the exit portion different than the entry portion. The detection system further includes at least one approach sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object approach relative to the entry portion of the occupancy volume, and at least one retreat sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object retreat relative to the exit portion of the occupancy volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2009Publication date: September 9, 2010Inventors: Henry J. Patent number: RE42690Abstract: A surveillance system having at least one primary video camera for translating real images of a zone into electronic video signals at a first level of resolution. The system includes means for sampling movements of an individual or individuals located within the zone from the video signal output from at least one video camera. Video signals of sampled movements of the individual is electronically compared with known characteristics of movements which are indicative of individuals having a criminal intent. The level of criminal intent of the individual or individuals is then determined and an appropriate alarm signal is produced.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2009Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Prophet Productions, LLCInventor: David G.
