Abstract: Visual concepts contained within a video clip are classified based upon a set of target concepts. The clip is segmented into shots and a multi-layer multi-instance (MLMI) structured metadata representation of each shot is constructed. A set of pre-generated trained models of the target concepts is validated using a set of training shots. An MLMI kernel is recursively generated which models the MLMI structured metadata representation of each shot by comparing prescribed pairs of shots. The MLMI kernel is subsequently utilized to generate a learned objective decision function which learns a classifier for determining if a particular shot (that is not in the set of training shots) contains instances of the target concepts. A regularization framework can also be utilized in conjunction with the MLMI kernel to generate modified learned objective decision functions. The regularization framework introduces explicit constraints which serve to maximize the precision of the classifier.

Abstract: The presence/absence of a face in an image and the type of imaging mode during imaging (such as a landscape imaging mode and a close-up imaging mode) of the image acquired by imaging and the like are detected. Images are automatically classified by groups based on the detected information (classification information). A plurality of images classified by the groups are connected to create a multi-image file (MP file), and the MP file is recorded in a recording medium. As a result, the plurality of classified images can be managed altogether (without dissipation), and the plurality of classified images can be reproduced by providing the multi-image file even if a reproducer does not have a classification function.

  • Patent number: 8780230
Abstract: A method to create a faux group by using at least one digital image combined with at least one other digital image is provided. Associated with each digital image is data that is linked, which identifies the image and biographical data elements associated with the subject appearing in the image. From the digital images and linked data, a faux group image is created. On the faux group image, biographical data elements such as names or other identifiers are optionally displayed. If displayed, each biographical data element is linked to the associated individual digital image in the order it appears. Any rearrangement, movement or adjustment to either the digital image or associated biographical data element in the faux group image causes the digital image and biographical data element to be updated relative to all of the other digital images and biographical data element in the order that the subject of each individual digital image appears.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus that records image data on a detachable storage medium in a previously set recording format is provided. The apparatus sets the recording format of image data, and determines whether or not a storage medium attached to an attachment unit has a communication function that communicates with a different apparatus than the image processing apparatus. If it is determined that the storage medium has a communication function, and that the recording format of image data that can be transferred by the communication function does not match the recording format that has been set, the apparatus issues a warning.

Abstract: The disclosure herein relates to devices for compression, decompression or reconstruction of image data for still or moving pictures, such as image data detected with a digital camera. In some embodiments, data channels are compressed using a scalable compression algorithm. The compression algorithm may allow customization of compression parameters, such as a quantization factor, code block size, number of transform levels, reversible or irreversible compression, a desired compression ratio with a variable bit rate output, a desired fixed bit rate output with a variable compression rate, progression order, output format, or visual weighting. A lower quality image or an image with lower resolution may be reconstructed using only some of the compressed data. Use of offsets to various layers and color channels allow reconstruction of the image without requiring decompression of all of the full image data.

Abstract: A digital camera checks whether an image file stored in a flash memory unit belongs to an image file group including a RAW file and a JPEG file generated from the RAW file, and displays an image of an image file belonging to the image file group and an image of a single image file not belonging to any image file group in mutually different modes and so that the user can select an image. If the image of the image file group is selected, text that allows the user to select an image file to be deleted among the image files belonging to the image file group is displayed. As described above, one image corresponding to an image file among a plurality of image files belonging to an image file group is displayed, and text that allows the user to select an image file to be deleted is displayed.

  • Patent number: 8754959
Abstract: An optical-flow calculating unit (122) detects the amount of movement of an image capturing apparatus at the time of shooting a shot moving image. A camerawork-parameter calculating unit (123) calculates transformation parameters on the basis of the amount of movement. An image transforming unit (160) transforms a captured image on the basis of the transformation parameters. An image combining unit (180) combines the transformed captured image with a history image. A display unit (260) displays, as a representative image, the history image generated by the image combining unit (180) from a certain number of images among captured images. When a selecting operation of selecting a position in the displayed representative image is accepted, a selecting unit (240) selects a recording position of the moving image on the basis of the selected position. A display control unit (250) plays the moving image, starting from the selected recording position of the moving image.
