Abstract: In a digital broadcast receiving apparatus for amplifying a received modulated digital signal wave with automatically adjusted gain and demodulating the modulated signal wave to a digital signal, a tuner frequency-converts the modulated digital signal wave to generate a first modulated signal. A first automatic gain control amplification unit controls gain of the tuner to make a level of the first modulated signal at a first predetermined level. An A/D converter converts the first modulated signal into a second modulated signal. A demodulator demodulates the second modulated signal to generate a first demodulated digital signal. A second automatic gain control amplifier generates a second demodulated digital signal where frequency fluctuations included in the digital modulated wave are eliminated.

Abstract: A receiver receives a multiplex broadcasting wave of a terrestrial wave and a satellite wave and executes AGC. As for the terrestrial wave, only a frequency band of the terrestrial wave is extracted by a filter for the terrestrial wave, and the AGC on the terrestrial wave side is executed through an AGC loop for the terrestrial wave. As for the satellite wave, the frequency band including the terrestrial wave and the satellite wave is extracted by the filter for the satellite wave, and the AGC is executed based on the signal. As a result, the AGC on the satellite wave side is affected by a receiving condition variation of the terrestrial wave. By a frequency-analysis of the terrestrial wave signal, the receiving condition of the terrestrial wave is analyzed. According to the analyzed result, an AGC adjusting quantity on the satellite wave side is determined and the AGC on the satellite wave side is adjusted by the adjusting quantity.

At the receiver side, the first and/or second data streams can be reconstructed from a received signal. Abstract: A digital broadcast receiver has a function of selecting, at the time of receiving a digital broadcast, signals to be fed back to an AGC circuit depending on whether an analog broadcast channel exists adjacent to a channel to be received or not. When an analog broadcast channel exists adjacent to a channel to be received, a feedback system change-over switch is connected to a second feedback system and the voltage level of analog signals detected by an analog signal level detecting circuit is fed back. When an analog broadcast channel does not exist adjacent to the channel to be received, the feedback system change-over switch is connected to a first feedback system, and the voltage level of digital signals in a demodulating IC detected by a digital signal level detecting circuit is fed back. In such a manner, reception performance is improved.

Abstract: A video signal processing circuit. includes: a bell table, a first switch, a carrier generating unit, a second switch and a calculation processing unit. The bell table inputs a color difference signal to output a modulation signal having an amplitude defined by the SECAM Standard of the color difference signal. The first switch selects one of the color difference signal and the modulation signal to output a first signal. The carrier generating unit inputs the color difference signal to generate a carrier signal having a frequency defined by the SECAM Standard of the color difference signal. The second switch selects one of the carrier signal and a carrier signal having frequency defined by the PAL Standard and/or the NTSC Standard to output a second signal. The calculation processing unit calculates the first and second signals to output a color difference modulation signal.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image signal conversion apparatus or the like preferably applied, for example, when a SD signal (525i) is converted into a HD signal (525p or the like). In the image signal conversion section (110), the SD signal is converted into the HD signal, and the image is displayed on the display section (111). A class code CL indicating a class of a subject pixel of the HD signal is obtained by detecting a space class and a motion class from tap pixel data corresponding to the subject pixel of HD signal which is selectively fetched from a SD signal. The controller (101) loads coefficient data of each class according to the selected resolution into the coefficient memory (134) from the information memory bank (135) when the user selects the resolution.

Abstract: A technology is disclosed to enable a transfer to be made quickly and easily to a screen layout and an audio output mode preferred by a user when there is a change in an input source. Past viewing and listening history information regarding the attribute and the output state of an input source is stored beforehand, for example, which input source was viewed and listened to in what screen and audio structure, or which multi-window displaying a transfer was made to when an interrupt input source came in, depending on a relationship with a video being viewed and listened to at the time. Then, when an image regarding the input source is displayed, a screen layout and an audio output state are determined, and controlled based on the viewing and listening history information.

  • Patent number: 6839903
Abstract: A method of selecting a portion of a block of data for display based on characteristics of a display device. The method comprises several steps. In the first step, a block of Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data is received at a communication device adapted to process this data. Next, an input is received at the communication device regarding an appearance of the display device. The communication device can be a set-top box. The appearance of the display includes, but is not limited to, the resolution, the aspect ratio (AR), and the physical size of the display. Based on these inputs, the communication device next selects a portion, more or fewer columns or rows, of the block of EPG data to be displayed on the display device. The portion of the EPG data selected is formatted and communicated to the display device, e.g. television, for viewing by the user.
