  • Patent number: 8837660
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for handling transition errors is presented herein. The transition errors include handling unreported time base discontinuities during trick mode transition, miscalculated time stamps during trick mode transition, erroneous sequence end codes, and unreported broken group of picture transmission. Unreported time base discontinuities are detected by comparing the program clock reference (PCR) value of the data packet to the system time clock (STC). If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold, the STC is set to the PCR value. Miscalculated time stamps are detected by examining the difference in PTS values between temporally adjacent data packets. If the difference is not within a margin of error from predetermined value, the PTS is disabled. Unreported broken groups of pictures are handled by skipping the first two B-frames of the first group of pictures following a trick mode transition.

Abstract: This invention describes a method by which Broadband Spectrum Analysis can be performed in the Rh and Microwave frequency range with significantly higher speed, accuracy, and flexibility than existing RF and Microwave Spectrum Analyzers. This is done by eliminating the need for the filtering of the incoming signal, a process called preselection that needs to track in frequency with the scanning local oscillator in the instrument. By eliminating this requirement, this invention makes possible the identification and analysis of very broadband signals in a single sweep using an Adaptive Sweep Methodology and a Simultaneous Sweep capability that the present invention makes possible.

Abstract: A control device signals user inputs to an audio-video display. The control device may be configured as a pillow speaker and include a speaker for reproducing audio from the audio-video display. The control device is coupled to the audio-video display by wiring. Shared signals in the wiring are used to provide power to operate the control device and are used to signal the user inputs to the audio-video display. A touch panel is used to sense user inputs. The touch panel may be transparent with an underlay containing indicia of user-selectable commands located below the touch panel. The arrangement and selection of commands available to the user may be modified by changing the underlay.

  • Patent number: 8786784
Abstract: A digital level control circuit, such as an Automatic Gain Control, includes a plurality of digitally selectable signal levels with transitions between levels gradually varied to avoid signal output level discontinuities. An up/down counter may be used to incrementally stepwise transition an output signal between the digitally selectable output levels. Stepwise application of a control signal to the appropriate switching elements (e.g., FETs) forming an attenuator circuit may be implemented to moderate a switching time of the switching elements to provide a more gradual transition between element operating states. A deglitch circuit may be employed to latch the switching elements to achieve the desired state at the end of a desired switching transition period.

  • Patent number: 8780276
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing access to program channels, e.g., high definition programs and program channels which corresponding to a standard definition program and/or program channels are described. In accordance with the invention, a high definition auto tune function is supported. When enabled, in one exemplary embodiment, if a user selects a standard program definition channel, a check is automatically made to determine if a corresponding high definition program channel is available. The corresponding high definition program channel is a channel which provides the same program as on the selected standard definition channel but in high definition. When the auto tune function is enabled and a corresponding high definition channel is available, the device, e.g., set to box or tuner implementing the auto tune feature of the present invention, automatically tunes to the high definition channel instead of the standard definition channel.

Abstract: In a wireless communication device having a sheet-like antenna 41 and a first and second covers 42, 43 covering the antenna 41, a dielectric first rib 42a that is in contact with the antenna 41 is provided on the antenna 41 side of the first cover 42. The method for adjusting a resonance frequency is as described below. The first cover 42 on which the first rib 42a is provided is molded using a mold, a resonance frequency of the antenna 41 covered with the first cover 42 thus molded is measured, and the measured resonance frequency is compared with a predetermined frequency. The mold is changed such that the contact area between the first rib 42a and the antenna 41 is increased when the measured resonance frequency is higher than the predetermined frequency, and is decreased when the measured resonance frequency is lower than the predetermined frequency.
