Abstract: An attachment process for flexible substrates and a patterned sealant used therein are provided. The attachment process is mainly used to manufacture flexible liquid-crystal displays (LCDs). Firstly, a patterned sealant with an opening is applied to a first substrate, and then a liquid crystal material is filled in the patterned sealant. During a pressing process for combining the first substrate and a second substrate, bubbles can be automatically evacuated from the opening of the patterned sealant, and the patterned sealant will deform and expand to seal the opening after the pressing process. By applying the patterned sealant with an opening in the manufacturing process of flexible LCDs, bubbles are easily evacuated and the opening of the patterned sealant is directly and automatically sealed in the pressing process under the atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 7697105
Abstract: A display device includes a display panel and a parallax barrier bonded together with an adhesive layer made of a light-curing resin (for example, ultraviolet curing resin). The display device allows 3D display or multiple-image display. The parallax barrier includes a pattern-formed light-shielding layer on barrier glass. The parallax barrier has an area that does not include the light-shielding layer on the periphery portions thereof. Thus, with the display device including the parallax barrier and the display panel bonded together, peeling on adhesive planes of the parallax barrier and display panel is less likely to occur.

Abstract: Thermochromic liquid crystal filters are fabricated by providing two polarizers oriented at offset polarity with respect to each other; providing alignment structures adjacent the inner surfaces of the polarizers; placing a plurality of spacers between the polarizers; and filling a space created by the spacers with a thermotropic liquid crystal that acts as a wave block in an isotropic state and acts as a depolarizer in a nematic state. Alternatively, the filters can be created by encapsulating a thermochromic liquid crystal with a polymer material to form a flexible film and orienting the thermochromic liquid crystal in the polymer material to create a structure that functions as a thermochromic optical filter. Such filters can control the flow of light and radiant heat through selective reflection, transmission, absorption, and/or re-emission.
