Sealing Of Liquid Crystal Patents (Class 349/190)
  • Patent number: 7397529
Abstract: A custom made liquid crystal display is formed from a pre-manufactured liquid crystal display by removing an excess region. The driver card is cut along the line X-X and the excess TABs are disconnected from the conductive layer. Optionally, a narrow strip is removed from each of the polarizing substrates between the lines to expose their associated glass plates. A groove is then cut into the exposed surface of each of the glass plates. Each glass plate is then fractured along the base of its groove so that the excess region is detached from the operative region. The cut edges of the glass plates are then sealed by applying a bead of ultra-violet curing adhesive. The processes of removing an excess region by cutting the glass plates with a laser or by freezing the liquid crystal between the glass-plates and machining through the glass plates are also described.

  • Patent number: 7394516
Abstract: The present invention related to unifying steps of sealing material so that the yield and the reliability of a liquid-crystal display device become high. A starting film of scanning lines is patterned so that prismatic dummy wirings 301 for the first layer which are not electrically connected are formed in regions R1 and R2, and wirings 302 extending from the pixel section are formed in a region R3, and wirings 303 having connection end portions 303a are formed in a region R4. After an interlayer insulation film is formed on those surface, the starting film of the signal lines is patterned so that the dummy wirings 304 for the second layer are formed to embed the gaps between the wirings 301 to 303, and also the wirings 305 and the wirings 303 which extend from the pixel portion are connected to each other. As a result, the cross-sectional structure along the line A–A? of the sealing material formation region 107 can be unified.

Abstract: A method for adjusting an amount of liquid crystal in a liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes injecting a liquid crystal into a liquid crystal receiving space. The liquid crystal receiving space is disposed between a first substrate, a second substrate that faces the first substrate, and a sealing member interposed between the first and second substrates. The method for adjusting an amount of liquid crystal in a liquid crystal display (LCD) device further includes reducing a thickness of the sealing member at a predetermined portion of the sealing member to form a repair region, and pressurizing the liquid crystal to break the sealing member at the repair region to discharge some of the liquid crystal from the liquid crystal receiving space, so as to adjust the amount of the liquid crystal in the liquid crystal receiving space. The method for adjusting an amount of liquid crystal in a liquid crystal display (LCD) device also includes resealing the broken repair region of the sealing member.

Abstract: This present invention relates to a process of liquid crystal panel with one drop fill (ODF). A black matrix, which can not be penetrated by an ultraviolet light while curing a sealant, is formed on the other substrate. Hence, in this present invention, it can avoid the aforementioned problem during the curing process and simplifies the curing process.

  • Patent number: 7298449
Abstract: A first transparent substrate and a second transparent substrate having such a plurality of protrusions on the liquid crystal layer side as to contact with the first transparent substrate are so fixed by means of a sealant that they bend convexly to the liquid crystal layer. Thus, it is possible to suppress the mura defect of a panel, which might otherwise be caused by the heat radiation from a back light when a liquid crystal display apparatus is driven.

  • Patent number: 7298446
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) cell for an LCD device is disclosed that can be manufactured under easy rework processing for reduced cost. The LCD cell comprises a first transparent substrate; a second transparent substrate; and a sealing member. The sealing member is sandwiched between and fixedly binds the first and second transparent substrates in a structural alignment for image displaying operation of the LCD cell. The sealing member forms a perimeter encircling a display area of the LCD cell and having a discharge port at a location on the perimeter thereof. The perimeter encloses an optimized amount of liquid crystal obtained after the excessive liquid crystal trapped within the perimeter during the manufacture of the LCD cell is discharged out of the LCD cell through the discharge port. The perimeter sealedly encloses the optimized amount of liquid crystal therein after the discharge port is plugged for defect-free implementation of the image displaying operation.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an ODF (one drop fill) LCD panel. A first substrate with a black matrix and a second substrate opposite thereto are provided. A first sealant area is formed on a peripheral region of the first substrate or the second substrate. The first sealant area is separated from the black matrix area by a space in a range of from 0 to 10 mm. The first sealant area is cured by applying a curing light from a side of the first substrate and through the first substrate to harden the first sealant area without light shielding resulting from the black matrix area.

  • Patent number: 7280179
Abstract: A liquid crystal display cell and a method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. The method includes the following steps. First, a sealing member including a main portion enclosing a display region and a protrusion part extending from the main portion is formed. Then, a liquid crystal material is dispensed upon one of a pair of substrates, and then one substrate is superposed upon the other substrate so as to perform alignment and assembly processes. After the sealing member is cured, the pair of substrates is cut thereby obtaining the liquid crystal display cell. The sealing member is formed by starting application of a sealing material to either one of a pair of substrates from a position outside of the display region toward the display region to form the protrusion part of the sealing member, and continuing the application of the sealing material along the display region to form the main portion of the sealing member.
