Reflector Having Particular Shape Behind Light Source Patents (Class 349/67)
  • Patent number: 8054407
Abstract: The present invention provides a light-weighted backlight capable of ensuring a sufficient light quantity at a low cost. A backlight is arranged below a liquid crystal panel. A light source is arranged in the vertical direction with respect to a screen of the liquid crystal panel so that light from the light source is directed toward the liquid crystal panel by a reflector. Due to such a constitution, the reflector can also function as a back lid of the backlight. Further, the reflector plays a role of directing the light from the light source toward the liquid crystal panel and hence, a light guide plate can be omitted. Due to such a constitution, the present invention can realize the reduction of weight and cost of the backlight or the liquid crystal display panel.

Abstract: In general, an illumination display includes a light transmitting panel that provides enhanced illumination edge lighting. One or more light sources are optically coupled into an edge of the light transmitting panel to illuminate the light transmitting panel. The light transmitting panel refracts and reflects light such that a greater intensity of light may be emitted from one or more enhanced illumination portions, such as a raised enhanced illumination portion, of the light transmitting panel. The light source(s) may emit light of different colors corresponding to different conditions such that the illumination display indicates a condition by illuminating with the color corresponding to the condition. The illumination display may be used in various devices including, but not limited to, a device for checking the temperature of food.

  • Patent number: 7884898
Abstract: An optical sheet for a backlight is provided on a surface light source in the backlight. An optical reflection layer has a plurality of through grooves formed on a transparent substrate and arranged at a prescribed interval. The width of the through hole is narrowed from the upper surface opening to the lower surface opening. Each of the cylindrical lenses is filled within a corresponding through groove, and its surface is a cylindrical surface that covers the upper surface opening of the through groove. Light from the light source comes in only from the lower surface opening, so that the angle of incidence of light when the light reaches the cylindrical surface can be controlled, and an increased amount of light deflected toward the front surface can be emitted. Therefore, the optical sheet for a backlight can collect light from the surface light source in the front surface direction.

Abstract: In a backlight assembly and a flat panel display apparatus, the backlight assembly has a diffusing plate, a supporting member and reflecting plate. The supporting member has a base body portion, a supporting portion supporting the diffusing plate and a lamp holder receiving lamps to uniformly maintain spaced intervals between the lamps. The base body portion is disposed under the reflecting plate. The supporting portion and the lamp holder are inserted through engaging openings formed at the reflecting plate such that the supporting portion and the lamp holder are upwardly protruded with respect to the reflecting plate. Accordingly, the backlight assembly may reduce an area of the reflecting plate covered by the supporting member, thereby providing the light having uniform brightness distribution.
