With Cylindrical Or Curved Exposure Station Structure Patents (Class 355/104)
  • Patent number: 11370217
Abstract: An impression station of a printing system comprises a rotatable impression cylinder with an impression cylinder gap housing a plurality of grippers recessed therein. A pressure cylinder assembly comprises a pressure cylinder comprising a pressure cylinder gap and an angle portion joining a trailing edge of the pressure cylinder gap and an outer circumferential surface of the pressure cylinder. A compressible blanket is disposed around the circumference of the pressure cylinder. A margin insert is interposed between the pressure cylinder and the compressible blanket at least at the angle portion, such that a local external geometry of the pressure cylinder assembly at the angle portion is changed by the presence of the margin insert. The change in the local external geometry of the pressure cylinder assembly due to the presence of the margin insert is effective to reduce a dimension of an unprinted leading-edge margin.

Abstract: A method for imaging film with color separations and text which eliminates manual stripping and the use of mylar carriers. Color separation data from a color scanner is stored digitally on a computer. Text is input directly into the computer. The data for the images and text is manipulated digitally to compose a page layout. The computer then instructs an image setter to image the complete, composed page onto four pieces of film in the four color printing colors--cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The imaged film is used to make lithographic printing plates for color printing. The image setter used in the method includes a specially pinned drum having pins corresponding to pins used during imposition. Blank film has prepunched holes corresponding to the pins on the pinned drum so that the imaged film comes off of the drum with images and text in position and register relative to the pin holes. The labor intensive steps of manually stripping film onto mylar carriers is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4304842
Abstract: A process is provided for making a relief printing form which is at least partially cylindrical from a liquid photopolymerizable molding material. In accordance with the process, a molding material is spread over the internal surface of the cylindrical wall by centrifugal force and hardened in the desired places with ultraviolet light to form an image corresponding to a printing design. The nonhardened portions of the molding material are then removed. The cylindrical wall is a transparent cylindrical tube. An exchangeable image-bearing film is placed on the inside of the tube.Photopolymerizing radiation of the printing form material is effected during rotation of the transparent cylindrial tube. An exchangeable image-bearing film is placed on the inside of the tube. Photopolymerizing radiation of the printing form material is effected during rotation of the transparent cylinder by means of one or more radiation sources distributed around the circumference of the transparent cylinder.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for manufacturing a seamless printing roll. A liquid photosensitive resin is applied to the space between a process cylinder and a rigid plate which is transparent to actinic light. Relative movement is provided between the cylinder and the plate perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder, while the cylinder is rotated in synchronization with the relative movement of the rigid plate to evenly spread the photosensitive resin. The photosensitive resin is simultaneously exposed in the space between the cylinder and rigid plate.

  • Patent number: 4236814
Abstract: In a tandem duplicating system, a transport means conveys a copy sheet from a first printing station where an image is applied to the first side of the copy sheet to a second printing station where an image is applied to the second side of the same copy sheet utilizing a suction force for securing the copy sheet to a sheet conveyor, wherein only the image-free side of the copy sheet is contacted or engaged by the conveyor. Advancing copy sheets are delivered to a position subjacent the second printing station where means normally disposed beneath the conveyor are activated to engage the trailing edge of the copy sheet lift it to a position above the transport means and advance the trailing edge of the sheet into gripping means provided in the second printing station for advancing the copy sheet through the second printing station and applying an image to its second side.

  • Patent number: 4201466
Abstract: In an elongate exposure assembly in a copying machine, an illumination cylinder is nested in an array of elongate rolls which cooperate with endless elastic belts to drive the cylinder and feed the originals and copy sheets around the same. The rolls are of minimum stiffness, but are nevertheless capable of acting to feed the sheets correctly by reason of one or more self-locating spreader plates arranged at appropriate positions along their lengths to hold the rolls locally in the proper relationship to each other. Each such plate is provided with a throat opening into the cylinder receiving opening to provide access for the sheets to be exposed.

  • Patent number: 4176949
Abstract: A rotary open-ended tubular drum of transparent material is supported within a housing by a pair of spaced support rolls and an endless flexible belt entrained over a pair of spaced apart feed rolls, the belt being generally opposed to the support rolls. The belt and drum are driven by a motor to feed a master sheet and a sensitized sheet to be printed, in face-to-face contact, between a drum engaging feeding flight portion of the belt and the portion of the drum engaged by the belt. An ultraviolet lamp is mounted in outwardly spaced relation to one end of the drum, and delivers ultraviolet light axially toward the interior of the drum. A stationary mirror within the drum is positioned to reflect ultraviolet light from the lamp toward an interior surface of the portion of the drum that is engaged by the feeding flight of the belt.

  • Patent number: 4076418
Abstract: A film slewing device is incorporated into a contact printer of the type in which a free running inner copy film and a driven outer master film are transported in layered contact on the surface of a free wheeling drum through a light exposure region by use of a master film drive roller and a film coupling pressure roller. The slewing device can selectively provide independent drive of the master film while holding the copy film stationary. This is accomplished by use of a thin arcuate film separating member that is conformed to the outer surface of the drum and that slides on the outer surface of the copy film. The film separating member can be slideably inserted between copy and master films in the region of light exposure. It has idling rollers on its outer surfaces to permit free passage of the outer master film. The pressure roller is disengaged when the separating member is positioned between films to prevent movement of the copy film.
