Abstract: The conversion of RAW data captured by a camera can have artifacts in smoothness of various hues for varying chroma. To optimize smoothness and color accuracy, transform coefficients defining conversion of a standard color model to a target color model are determined. The RAW data is converted to data in a standard color model and the data in the standard color model is converted to data in the target color model using the transform coefficients. The process is repeated for various lightness levels and combined into a look up table to efficiently convert RAW data to data in the target color model for various lightness levels.

Abstract: The amount of achromatic toner used is reduced without decreasing adhesive force. A printer apparatus derives the densities of chromatic toner corresponding to the tone values of image data in the cyan, magenta and yellow format, and derives a total density by adding up the respective densities of the chromatic toner of cyan, magenta, and yellow. Then, the apparatus compares a threshold density such as 100% or 60% with the total density of the chromatic toner of cyan, magenta, and yellow. When the total density is higher than the threshold density, the apparatus sets the density of achromatic toner to 0. When the total density of the chromatic toner of cyan, magenta, and yellow is not higher than the threshold density, the apparatus sets the density of the achromatic toner to a value acquired by subtracting the total density from the threshold density.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards identifying background pixels in a scanned image so that they can be removed from the image. A histogram of each color channel for an initially scanned portion of the image may be determined. The histogram may represent a frequency distribution of pixels in the scanned portion across each color value for each color channel. A white point tracking profile may be determined based on the histogram. The white point tracking profile may identify a range of color values for each channel that are statistically related to a mode color value of a corresponding color channel. When pixels in the scanned image are determined to have a color profile within the white point tracking profile, then those pixels may be modified to a predetermined color profile, such as a maximum color value for each channel. The modified pixels may then be removed from the scanned image.

  • Patent number: 9098796
Abstract: An image forming device has an image processing unit that generates first image data on the basis of image forming data describing an object. The first image data specify first gradation values of at least one black or chromatic color. The image processing unit also identifies certain pixels in an area in which the object is disposed, and generates second image data specifying a second gradation value that is greater than a predetermined gradation value for the identified pixels. An image forming unit forms a first image, based on the first image data, by using at least one black or chromatically colored developing agent, and forms a second image, based on the second image data, by using a white developing agent, thereby reproducing colors in white areas while reducing the usage of the white developing agent.

  • Patent number: 9083922
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for determining and providing color metadata for a downlink data channel. In accordance with the present invention color metadata is determined such that gamut mapping is defined by a transmitted source gamut which enables adapted mapping that preserves saturation and contrast levels of the source for a downlink data channel. The metadata is then provided to a downlink data channel for color management.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus that enables to output a transmission result report without confusing a user even if a part of printing mechanisms or a printing function is broken. A report output unit generates a transmission result report showing a result of transmission of image data and causes the printing unit to output the transmission result report. A setting unit sets whether to add a part of the transmitted image data to the transmission result report as an additional image. A control unit creates and outputs the transmission result report without adding the additional image even if the setting unit sets to add the additional image, when the transmitted image data is the color image and when the printing unit cannot print a color image and can print a monochrome image.

  • Patent number: 9041978
Abstract: For each totally black pixel of image data to be printed using a fluid-ejection printing device, it is determined whether the pixel is part of a line feature or an area fill feature of the image data. Where the pixel is part of a line feature, a first printing mask selected that is optimized for printing line features. Where the pixel is part of an area fill feature, a second printing mask is selected that is optimized for printing area fill features. Each mask specifies a number of fluid droplets to be printed and positions where the fluid droplets are to be printed. The selected mask is applied to the pixel. The pixel is printed using the mask that has been applied. The fluid-ejection printing device prints the pixel by ejecting the number of fluid droplets specified by the mask at the positions specified by the mask.
