Abstract: Transfer functions are often used for image processing. Look-up tables can be used to implement transfer functions in a processor-efficient manner. In one embodiment, the invention is an apparatus that includes a look-up table (LUT) storing sample outputs from an output range of a transfer function, the sample outputs corresponding to sample inputs from an input range of the transfer function, the sample inputs being distributed so that more sample inputs are associated with a first region of the transfer function than a second region of the transfer function; and an address module to calculate an index into the LUT based on image data. In one embodiment, the apparatus uses the LUT to process the image data.

The present system and method effectively utilizes a predictive model that predicts noise measurements of multi-separations from those of single-separation colors and/or a subset of the multi-separations. Because a model is used to comprehend the metric over the entire gamut, the number of patches is reduced. This reduction enables the method to be used within a machine to dynamically characterize the device's image quality metric. Various embodiments have been disclosed.

Abstract: A color correction method is provided. Grey values of three primary colors of an image data are transformed into initial characteristic values in a color space. Three sets of characteristic values of a to-be-corrected apparatus when the apparatus displays the primary colors respectively are measured. The characteristic values of the image data are transformed into a set of adjusted brightness values of the primary colors according to the characteristic values and a color space transformation equation. Gamma curves of the apparatus when displaying the primary colors are measured and modified to generate new grey-value vs. brightness relationships for the primary colors, so as to obtain adjusted grey values of the primary colors corresponding to the adjusted brightness values.

More specially the device secondary color G-K is reproduced with ink of the pure color component composed of the color mixture of the particular color G ink and the basic color Y ink to tone the particular color G ink. In addition, as complementary color components, the particular color R ink and K ink are used. Thereby, the reproduction line is substantially linear from the device secondary color G point to the device K point. In color reproduction at the dark portion of the color on the G-K line, sufficient chroma can be obtained.

The color range conversion component performs a color range conversion of input color signals in accordance with a specified color range conversion condition. The control component excludes from objects of the color range conversion by the color range conversion component a color value, of the input color signals, of which a position in a predetermined color space is outside a color reproduction range and which satisfies a predetermined condition. The color conversion and clipping component, after a color space conversion, applies clipping to a color value that falls outside the color reproduction range of the designated device in the color space dependent on the designated device, including rounding off such that the color value falls in the color reproduction range.
