Abstract: A display includes: a display panel; an illumination unit; and a driving unit. The illumination unit includes a pair of light transmissive substrates, two light sources, an optical modulation layer configured to exhibit diffusion or transparency for light from each of the two light sources, and an electrode. The optical modulation layer is configured to switch a wide-angle diffusion intensity and a front diffusion intensity of light emitted from the illumination unit, by switching of a magnitude of a voltage applied to the electrode. The driving unit allows a diffusion intensity ratio of the light emitted from the illumination unit in a dual-view mode to be higher than the diffusion intensity ratio in a normal mode by switching the magnitude of the voltage applied to the electrode. The diffusion intensity ratio is defined as dividing the wide-angle diffusion intensity by the front diffusion intensity.

Abstract: A system for stereoscopic visualization of image information includes a display device defining a display area for displaying a left and a right partial image. The display device displays the left partial image to a left eye of an observer focused on the display area in a first viewing direction using a left observation beam path and the right partial image to the right eye in a second viewing direction using a right observation beam path. The system includes a vision assist through which the left and right observation beam paths pass. The vision assist sets a beam course for the left and right viewing observation beam paths wherein, starting from the left and right eyes in a direction toward the display area, a perpendicular distance between the left and right observation beam paths decreases to a minimum at a finite distance from the display surface.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described herein which produce polarization-independent full color images suitable for rear-projection television sets and other multimedia displays. The system uses illumination with R, G, B light from two different light sources for each color. A viewer wears glasses with narrowband optical filters, preferably holographic filters. The R, G, B light from the light sources is slightly offset at each of the 3 emission wavelengths, with one set of R, G, B light being filtered by the holographic filter in front of the left eye of the, and the other set of R, G, B light being filtered by the holographic filter in front of the viewer's right eye.

Abstract: Continuous Adjustable Pulfrich Filter Spectacles are provided with lenses with continuously changeable optical densities, so that viewing of 2D movies is optimized for visualization in natural 3D. Method and means are disclosed for the continuous Adjustable Pulfrich Filter Spectacles to perform two independent optimizations to achieve optimized 3Deeps visual effects on 2D movies. First they compute the optical density setting of the lenses for optimal viewing of 2D movies as 3D. Then they continuously render the lenses of the spectacles to these optical densities optimized for characteristics of the electro-optical material from which the lenses of the spectacles are fabricated. The invention works for both 3DTV and 3D Cinema theater viewing.
