Abstract: A display method and system are described for displaying a stereo image comprising a first image and a second image. A light valve array comprising an array of light valve elements is driven according to an image and a light source is provided for generating a shaped light beam which can illuminate a portion of the light valve array. A scanning device is provided which is arranged to scan the shaped light beam across the light valve array. Light valve elements of the same light valve array are caused to sequentially adopt a state representative of the first image of the stereoscopic image and a state representative of the second image, and to cause the light valve elements to adopt a new state representative of one of the first and second images in advance of the scanning by the shaped light beam and to change to a new state representative of the other of the first and second images during a period between successive scans of the shaped light beam.

Abstract: Continuous Adjustable Pulfrich Filter Spectacles are provided with lenses with continuously changeable optical densities, so that viewing of 2D movies is optimized for visualization in natural 3D. Method and means are disclosed for the continuous Adjustable Pulfrich Filter Spectacles to perform two independent optimizations to achieve optimized 3Deeps visual effects on 2D movies. First they compute the optical density setting of the lenses for optimal viewing of 2D movies as 3D. Then they continuously render the lenses of the spectacles to these optical densities optimized for characteristics of the electro-optical material from which the lenses of the spectacles are fabricated. The invention works for both 3DTV and 3D Cinema theater viewing.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image processing device includes an observing unit and a generating unit. The observing unit obtains an observation image by observing a viewer which views a display unit. The generating unit generates a presentation image in which visible area is superimposed on the observation image. The visible area is an area within which the viewer is able to view the stereoscopic image. A display form of the visible area changes based on a position of the viewer in a perpendicular direction to the display unit.

Abstract: Shaped glasses have curved surface lenses with spectrally complementary filters disposed thereon. The filters curved surface lenses are configured to compensate for wavelength shifts occurring due to viewing angles and other sources. Complementary images are projected for viewing through projection filters having passbands that pre-shift to compensate for subsequent wavelength shifts. At least one filter may have more than 3 primary passbands. For example, two filters include a first filter having passbands of low blue, high blue, low green, high green, and red, and a second filter having passbands of blue, green, and red. The additional passbands may be utilized to more closely match a color space and white point of a projector in which the filters are used. The shaped glasses and projection filters together may be utilized as a system for projecting and viewing 3D images.
